Yes, there is a vaccine available called Zostavax.

"Zostavax is a vaccine developed by Merck & Co. which has proven successful in preventing half the cases of herpes zoster in a study of 38,000 people who received the vaccine.[3] The vaccine also reduced by two-thirds the number of cases of postherpetic neuralgia.[4] However, prior to the vaccine, it has long been known that adults received natural immune boosting from contact with children infected with varicella. This helped to suppress the reactivation of herpes zoster.[5] In Massachusetts, herpes zoster incidence increased 90%, from 2.77/1000 to 5.25/1000 in the period of increasing varicella vaccination 1999-2003.[6] The effectiveness of the varicella vaccine itself is dependent on this exogenous (outside) boosting mechanism. Thus, as natural cases of varicella decline, so has the effectiveness of the vaccine.[7]"

Shingles is dormant chickenpox in your body and if you have had chicken pox then you are at risk when your body is stressed. I have read articles that say that taking the supplement lysine will reduce out breaks by increasing immunity. Doctors can prescribe antiviral meds that lessen severity and duration of outbreak but work best when taken early in outbreak process so if you have had shingles outbreak before and tingle in same place like your getting another outbreak you should notify your doctor asap so that you can start meds.

I do not believe there is an injection to prevent shingles. If you have ever had the chickenpox, you are suseptible to shingles.

Chicken pox vaccine. There may also be other herpes-class vaccines available now. Your doctor or pharmacist will know for sure.

Yes, there is a new vaccine. I don't know the name of it - but I have seen it advertised in medical journals.
