If you are saying your neighbor moved or went on vacation and left no instructions for anyone to care for the cat than you definitely need to do something. And I applaud you for taking the time and interst to do this.

You can call Animal Services in your area or a local Humane Society. If none of that gets you any help call the police.

I wouldn't recommend you trying to go into the house without their invitation. It might be considered trespassing, breaking in and even though your intentions are good you wouldn't want to have that problem.

Hope this helps

If he's only gone for the day, there's really not much you can do about it. If he's gone for an extended period, do you know how to get in touch with him to find where a spare key might be? Or can you contact a relative who might have a key and can come help the kitty? I wouldn't go into the house, or try to get into the house, without his permission because that would be breaking and entering, and you could be arrested for that. If all else fails, then call the police or animal control. However, offer to take care of the cat yourself so that they don't put it in a shelter till he comes back. I'm sure that cat will be less traumatized.

One of my tenants left for 2 weeks without feeding his cat. The poor thing survived on moldy macoroni and cheese, and drinking out of a nasty toilet. Prior to that the kitten was born behind one of our dupsters feral and stray, just before I took over management. Talk about a rough life!

Since the guy hadn't paid his pet deposit, I just flat out ordered the guy to turn the cat over to me. Now she's fat, has a full coat of fur, and spends every afternoon deleriously happy.

Maybe that cat could be your cat.

Call local animal control. They'll come to the rescue of a cat in trouble.

Call animal control. With any luck they'll get the cat and they'll get the "owner" for animal abuse.

Try playing with it with some string. Sometimes they get so excited they forget they're avoiding you, and run right over.
