I saw a picture of a cat as big as a medium size dog and was told it was a breed. Does anyone know what the name of this breed is. These cats look like regular cats only they are huge, like a dog.

Maine Coon cats get big, but so do some plain old domestic short hairs with hardy alley cat genes in their blood. I have a Maine Coon, and a couple of big old tom cats that are as big a medium sized dog. Parker - good old Philadelphia alley cat stock - comes up to my knees and I am 5'7" tall and he goes about 22 lbs. Emma (Maine Coon) is almost as tall - not done growing yet - and she was over 15 at last check up. Some cats are big and some are small - all depends on genetics, just like humans.

I'd rather answer what type of dog NOT to get :) Don't get any of the terrier breeds (except Boston Terriers). The worse one would be a Jack Russel or mix. You don't want too small of a dog tho - maybe a mini poodle vs a toy. Other ones may be a spanial type. The important thing is either talk to the reputable breeder how the dog gets along with cats or the shelter. Shelters often do cat/kid testing before rehoming so you know if the dog is ok with both or the dog should not be placed with cats/kids.

It could be a Serval Cat or a Savannah Cat.

As you will probably be able to tell...they're pretty big cats! Some require special permits to own. There are other larger cats that this breeder breeds, so if both of those aren't the ones you were talking about, maybe you can find it on the page.

It's probably a Maine Coon. I have two of them and my boy Zeke is gigantic, 28 lbs. The are considered one of, if not the largest domestic cat breeds.

pretty sure its an ocicat.

Its not a maine coon, people! The cat i think he is talking about is a domestic cat thats been cross bred with a wild cat, an ocilot...and domesticated.

Well, if it was spotted (gray or brown) it might have been an ocicat (pronounced ossy cat). They're bred to look like ocilots. I've got one, and he weighs nearly 30 pounds. He eats most of the groceries, lol.

Was it an orange tiger cat? I've seen that pic floating on-line, could be a possible hoax.
