Those of you who like to offer up funny questions in this section and mock God and Christians because of your far superior intelligence and also there is nothing going on in the trailer park this afternoon.

I think its a mistake to even pay attention to the vocal trolls that ply the boards here, much less feed them juicy vittels like this. If something offends you enough, report it, otherwise just give your honest answers to those who seem worthy of it and remember at the end of the day the pearls you carry and the swine who would love to sully them.

I've tried to be my most straightforward and well thought out here--mostly because it offers me a great forum for discussing at length the religious struggles I've had. I'm happy its here, and usually its the very trollbait questions that I've been able to take seriously and concider rather than just jump to the emotional conclusion. I think there should be more discussion in religon, less defensiveness, less disrespect, less hate.

Then again I wonder if that's possible. There's a lot of pretty outrageous stuff in religion, that doesn't seem to bear much scrutiny before it falls apart. I wonder if some measure of religious sensitivity comes from subjective minds coming and poking inquisitive fingers into the delicate workings of their faith. Maybe at some level there's the understanding that it doesn't really really hold up, that it's not really true, and that the fear of that loss is so damaging that the response is anger and hurt.

As for the one month scenario--I think I've been trying to keep as open so far as I would be then. Its not like I put spiritual matters out of my mind anyway. Its not that I openly profess disbelief, but inside am just looking for an excuse to lead a wicked little life. My life isn't really even all that wicked. Were there a God out there, I would be the first loyalist to bow the knee and humble myself. I just really can't concieve that there is one. All the "evidence" seems phony and self-referencial, all the ways to know seem contrived to give false positives, all the debates seem more like thrusting ideas at me ever more aggressively and patronizingly that still just don't make sense.

Religion does genuinely help some people cope with stress, sometimes very painful stress. But that doesn't make it true. Some people also turn to drink or drugs and they can help too, but the effect is no more real. We humans are very susceptible to suggestion, and can easily convince ourselves almost anything is true. Which is why so many truly bizarre cults exist, why homoeopathic remedies often really work and why, even today, some people will actually die if they believe they have been cursed. You are just as vulnerable as the rest of us, and in a stressed weakened state, even more so. It wasn't God stopping you, it was your own will power. You are stronger and more in control of your life than you know - well done! BUT. . . if you are really convinced religion will save your life, you could be right - so go with it. But be careful. in your condition it could very easily take over your whole life. Make sure you go with a relatively safe, sane religious grouping. I would suggest Anglican (C of E if you are British) or Catholic. Avoid the happy clappy, lunatic fringe at all costs. They will devour you completely - and leave your life in ruins. Good luck Vic. Be strong and may you be happy again.

Why would that change my mind?I don't believe in god, heaven, hell or purgatory. When I die that's it.End of story.
By the way, thank you for admitting I have superior intelligence and I have never been to a trailer park

Ummmmmm
Nope. I'm a Pagan, and my faith is secure.

As far as superior intelligence... I may perhaps have such compared to others. To use it to put down a faith is something I'm not usually inclined to do. On the other hand, direct challenges such as yours above do beg one to do so. Still, I'd like to think that I'm better than that.

I don't mock any god or believer simply because of a believer's faith. I will though call to task those who claim exclusivity and tell me that I'm simply wrong because they have the exclusive truth.

If you can live in a world with me, without trying to make my faith "illegal" or "immoral", I can do the same with you. Attack my faith though, and I'll likely respond in kind.

Peace,

--Dee

Not a chance. The atheists in foxholes aren't afraid of death like cissy theists. I'd make sure I had time to contact all my family and friends, ensure they knew how I felt about them, demanded that they don't weep too long but get on and enjoy the rest of their own lives, and I'd be happy if I could die knowing they might think of me fondly from time to time. Nothing else is needed. Certainly not your imaginary friend, you insolent dolt.

its very hard to imagine what that would feel like, so I wouldnt like to say but Im an atheist/philosphical anarchist or something and for me I think everyone keeps wondering about all those things until they actually die or, who knows maybe even after too. the question to ask before this one could be Whether you think that people become more desparate for something or someone to give them strength when they are closer to death. I can see how you could think like that but in my oberservations pleople in such situations usually look a lot closer to home. its just an opinion like and Im no expert. Intersting question though. Thanks.

I think if you are truly seeking for something more, then no. Then you will find what you are looking for, and it wont take someone telling you you are going to die. Although telling someone they have one month to live can make then get more serious about their religion, I dont think it would make them change their mind about God.
But I am not sure about that. I am sure it is different for each person.

I wouldn't and never will change my believe in God, because it is not only in this life that we have to be focus on. As a Christian there is more after this life, only as a son or daughter of God if you aren't then there will be eternal death.

and i dont live in a trailer park. most white trash are christians, ultra-liberal wealthy scholars are more likely to be atheists.
