Place eggs in single layer in saucepan.
Cover with at least one inch of water over tops of shells.
Cover pot with lid and bring to a boil.
As soon as it begins to boil, remove from heat and let stand.

Large soft-cooked eggs: let stand in hot water 1 to 4 minutes, depending on your tastes.
Large hard-cooked eggs: let stand in hot water 15 to 17 minutes.
When cooked to desired level, drain off hot water.
Immediately cover with cold water and add a few ice cubes.
Soft-cooked eggs: let stand in cold water until cool enough to handle. Serve.
Hard-cooked eggs: let stand in cold water until completely cooled. Use as needed.
Tips:
Never boil eggs. It makes them rubbery.
Use older eggs. Fresh ones won't peel properly.
To keep eggs from cracking while cooking, pierce large end with a needle, which will also make them easier to peel.

I usually do 8-10 minutes. I should add that you have to put the eggs in the water and THEN bring it to a boil. This might seem like common sense but I know people who have dropped eggs into boiling water and wondered why their eggs were exploding. So. Yeah.

Here's my "no-fail" method:
Cover the amount of eggs you want to hard boil w/ water and a pinch of salt. When the water comes to a full rolling boil, turn the burner off and put a tight fitting lid on the pan. Leaving the pan on the turned off burner, time the eggs for 15 minutes. When the timer goes off, let cold water run over them for a few minutes, and peel. This method gives me perfectly cooked eggs, without the gray ring around the yolk. Now here's my easy way of peeling the eggs... empty the water from the pan when the eggs are cool. While holding the lid on tight, shake the heck out of them. The shells, will mostly come off by them selves this way, and you just have to give them a bit of a push and they're clean =)

BTW: Happy Thanksgiving All!

Well, do you want green on the outside of the yolk or do you want it to be yellow?
For yellow-Place eggs in a pot, cover with water so there is about an inch of water to cover. Add salt to the water to help solidify the whites faster. Bring the water up to just a bout a boil. Then remove from heat, put a lid on the pot and let stand for 20 to 25 minutes-depending on how many eggs you have.
Then remove and shock the eggs in an ice bath to prevent any further cooking.

If you are going for plain old eggs and you dont care about the green-add water, add salt, bring to a boil, drop in eggs, then reduce heat to medium and cook for about 10 to 15 minutes (once again depending on how many eggs you have)
:o)

Never let them boil for more than a few seconds. Just bring to a boil in a heavy pan, cover and remove from heat. Let stand at least 10 minutes or better yet - until cool.

Also, if you put a couple of good dashes of salt in the water they'll peel more easily.

Put the eggs in a saucepan with just enough water to almost completely cover them. Bring them to the boil, and start timing them as soon as they are boiling (not simmering, boiling) 3 minutes for soft, 41/2 minutes for med and 6 minutes for hard.

put water & eggs in your pot, then turn on the stove and bring to a boil. Boil about 3 minutes, turn the heat off and let the eggs sit in the hot water for about 10 mins. Remove and let cool.

Also, if your yolks look greenish when you're done that means you cooked them too long.
