In most cased they are talking about your "bad cholesterol" Cholesterol has to do with the clotting of blood and you have 2 types of cholesterol "bad" and "good". If the bad is higher than the good then you could possibly end up with clogged arteries, if the good is higher than bad then the blood will be to thin. You need to balance the 2. Can you everybody do this, NO, but eating healthy and increasing excersie along with medication usually helps get the cholesterol back into check! Hope this helps.

Cholesterol has a range that is determined by measuring thousands of people and that range become age related. At one time a high cholesterol was considered anything above 200 but they have lower the "normal" range to below 200 because it appears that 200 may be too HIGH for the general population and with the use of Statins we can get ranges down to 165 and reduce heart attacks.

There is a nutrient that your body needs called cholesterol. It clogs up your arteries. After a while, the cholesterol hardens and forms a clump. This can be very dangerous, because if an artery gets clogged up completely, you could suffer a heart attack.

cholesterol is a major constituent of the cell... we eat fat, that is transported in our blood as low density lipoprotein or "LDL" and high density lipoprotein or "HDL". the simple difference between these two terms is that they are metabolically related and clinically speaking the LDL is the bad cholesterol and HDL is the good one. the fact behind this is that the LDL cause deposition of cholesterol in the arterial wall leading to vascular problem (yielding heart attck). while the HDL do the reverse job... hence when your physician tell you that your LDL or cholesterol is high he means that the level of bad cholesterol is high and you are at a higher risk of devloping a cardiovascular disease...
