I have had depression since age 13, am 57 and still battle it, and am doing better.

This is an illness that is predispositioned meaning you have someone in your immediate family that has battled this also although they may not even realize that it is depression.

Unfortunately, it never really leaves but can be managed with good results using medications and/or talk therapy (although the latter takes far longer and is less successful alone).

You've taken the initiative to determine how to help yourself and that's great but don't feel that you shouldn't talk to someone if you need to...with this the one thing you shouldn't attempt to do is heal yourself by yourself. Sometimes medical intervention is necessary not only to give the person suffering from it relief but also to allow their family, friends etc relief to know that their loved one is happy or at least happier, again.

Good luck,

"struggling" with mental distress.. Try walking daily getting a loyal dog as a pet.

Medication is prescribe in often too many cases of laziness. People with a higher level of physical activity suffer less from bouts of depression and anxiety. If you've got a lead butt get up and start moving it.

Yes, I suffer to. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder. I take no medications because the brain is more powerful than medication. I just live with it and cope with it day by day. But I do live, and that's the good part about it.

good luck, and keep living

Clinical depression is best treated with both medication and on-going counseling. It is worth it to invest the time and money into both.
