In the Bible an angel of God made a donkey speak to Baalam who was on his way to curse Israel.

Killing an animal for food is not a sin. God permitted us to do this. What is sin is abusing animals.

Yes, God can communicate with all His creation.

Act 10:10 And he became hungry and wished to taste food. But as they were preparing, an ecstasy fell on him.
Act 10:11 And he saw the heaven being opened and a certain vessel like a great sheet coming down on him, being bound by four corners, and let down onto the earth;
Act 10:12 in which were all the four-footed animals of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the birds of the heaven.
Act 10:13 And a voice came to him, Rise up, Peter, slay and eat.
Act 10:14 But Peter said, Not at all, Lord, because I never did eat anything common or unclean.
Act 10:15 And again a voice came to him a second time, What things God made clean, you do not make common.

There is the answer to your second question.

After the flood all animals were given to man for food. God can and does communicate with animals.

Humans are the only species I know of who can't communicate directly with God. We have come up with organized religions, ceremonies, ritual prayers, etc, and still we don't have his love in our hearts, no love for each other, no love for His creation. Look around - see any other species so insane as to make war or pollution?

Humans invented God. Animals have no need for a god. They are far better off than we are.

God can communicate with any creature.
Perhaps more effectively than with us.
We often refuse to listen.

We have been receiving punishment in terms of poor health and lower IQ. Vegetarians have highest IQ of all.

And we will be punished in other ways too.

Since the fall of man with the original sin everything has been altered ... we were once vegetarians but now we eat animals, it isn't right but its just the way it is.

Elisha Is Jeered
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths.

according to this verse, apparently so.
