The Earth isn't a 100% circle. It is distorted slightly (longer in the N and S). This is scientifically proven. Yet another flaw in the Bible pointed out by science.

I have one good eye so all spheres are circles to me. I have no depth perception.
The funny thing is how comological events that SHOULD BE sphereical end up being circular.
Most classical example The Ring Nebula.
If a star exploded, gas SHOULD move outwards as a spherical event horizon, yet it formed as a RING. A circle.
Atomic explosions do the same thing.
If you look at photographs of them, there is always one, two or three rings of gases coming out of the base of the mushroom.
The gamma radition probably does come out in all directions as a sphere
The deotnation is in the form of a sphere of nuclear material imploded.
Yet circles are formed.
We also have to learn to think in dimensions and as I mentioned I have one eye so I only see two, lenth and width.
For years many only saw three, until Einstein.
Now they talk 11.
It doesn't make the bible wrong, only relative perceptions of things inaccurate. You are dealing with a primative mind.
Does this make the Bible wrong, yea, a misinterpretation can definately flaw a concept.
Let's take evolution there are two interprtations of cause and effect, Darwin says Natural Selection and the other fellow said Survival of the Fittest.
Are they the same, do they mean the same. If one is inaccurate then the theory gets set back or even folds.
Wrong conculsions can be drawn.

In ancient times humans in general believed that the earth was flat. As early as the sixth century B.C.E., however, Greek philosopher Pythagoras theorized that the earth must be a sphere. Even so, two centuries before Pythagoras formulated his theory, the prophet Isaiah stated with extraordinary clarity and certainty: “There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth.” (Isaiah 40:22) The Hebrew word chugh here translated “circle” may be rendered “sphere.” Interestingly, only a spherical object appears as a circle from every angle. Far ahead of his time, then, the prophet Isaiah recorded a statement that is scientifically sound and free from ancient myths.
Technically speaking, the earth is an oblate spheroid. It is slightly flattened at the poles. Other Bible translations read, “the globe of the earth” (Douay Version) and “the round earth.”—Moffatt.

The earth is neither circle nor sphere. However, to the casual observer, I can see how one could perceive it as a two dimensional circle, especially since geometry did not begin until 300 BC, about 500 years after Isaiah.
Unless, of course, you hold to the Flat Earth theory like some do (see link below).

ok, you're examining this too actually. back then, there substitute into no word for sphere, they only knew the word circle. for individuals who're no longer as knowledgeable as we are, they could think of the international substitute right into a circle shape, as that they had no expertise to be attentive to what a sphere is. in spite of in the event that they did be attentive to the word sphere and the meaning, please word that the Bible substitute into written in historical Hebrew and Greek and translated over centuries by utilising adult adult males - it could have extremely been flawed interior the translation as circle rather of sphere. Translations from one language to a distinctive are very confusing - sometimes there are actually not any words interior the language you're translating to that precisely experience the word you are trying to translate, so which you circulate to the closest one that fits that word. possibly there substitute into no resembling sphere in Hebrew or Greek, so the translaters positioned circle there. extremely consumer-friendly to do. The bible itself isn't infallible, it extremely is the translators that have been fallible and blunders like this are human interpretation blunders, no longer blunders by utilising God.

The problem is not with the Bible saying the earth is round or flat or square or triangular or spherical. The Bible was not written to tell you what shape the world is. If you think that is the purpose of inspiration, you are sadly mistaken. The purpose of inspiration is do lead people to a knowledge of salvation in Jesus Christ. There are many human mistakes in the Bible. That does not defeat its purpose. The Bible gives enough information that can be verified by comparing scripture with scripture to bring any honest hearted person who is seeking into a knowledge of God that leads to salvation and eternal life. To the skeptic, there is enough error that they will find plenty of hooks to hang their doubts on. God gives enough light to enable the honest seeker to find the way but not enough to blind us and take away our freedom of choice. So the question is not, "What shape does the Bible say the world is"? But, "Will you let small human defects steal away your faith in God"? God used humans to teach the truths necessary for salvation. Paul calls these prophets "clay jars" because they are imperfect, yet malleable by the Master.

Understand that they may not have had words back then that we have now. It was written 2,000 years ago. Language changes. Think about it.
Symbolism also plays a role. A circle (also a sphere) is unending, eternal. Like God's love. Yea, even you.

*yawn*
ok so, the original oral tradition was eventually written down and compiled over thousands of years. The it was translated over and over. Every person who edited it made sure to *correct* small errors.
Pretty soon, lots of fine detail was lost...in effect we have a copy of a copy of a copy...etc.
The point of the book is to accept that it is correct on Faith. If you can do this, then nit-picking like this does not interest you. If you cannot accept it on Faith, then it is not the book for you.
The faithful are not interested in these sorts of observations, in my opinion but they will all chime in that the Book is right. So if your intent is to bash their cherished scripture, then this is a decent forum
If you are really interested in understanding this book, then I would suggest going and discussing it with someone who is an expert on the subject and who accepts it. A clergyman of some sort would do.
Just my opinion.

I guess when the prophet was looking at the vision from overhead he got the terminology wrong about "round". He should have said square.
