i get the hiccups all the time and it takes me forever to get rid of them... any suggestions?

My mother used to scare them out of me so that makes me think that big gulp of air we all take when we are startled may help.

Let's see there is
1)taking a big breath and holding to the count of 10 then exhaling very slowly through the nose only,
2)take 1/2 tsp of sugar chew slowly and swallow,
3)slowly drink a glass of cold water without stopping for a breath.
The scare tactic never worked for me.

Hold your breath for 60 seconds. At the end of the 60 seconds, blow the air out slowly from your lungs. (I blow hard inot something like a pillow.) Continue to blow out until all the air is out of y our lungs. At this point your body will prob hiccup again, but ignore it. Slowly inhale and breathe normally. This usually works.

when I have the hiccups, taking a drink aggravates them, so I take a drink and concentrate really hard on not doing it....once I can take 3 or 4 sips in a row without doing it, they usually just stop

I do this all the time, and it always works even though it is awkward to do... get a glass of water. Put the rim of the glass under ur chin and put ur lips on the far rim. With me so far? It's hard to describe. Bend over and drink the water upside down. Be careful of it will go up ur nose.

This has always worked for me: Sip a glass of water very slowly.
hop up and down on one foot.
Gargle with mouth wash.
Have somebody scare you take a shower.
And drink some hot drink IE.tea,coacoa,coffee.
I've heard liccorce prevents them but I'm not sure thats true.

eat a teaspoon of sugar, and swallow it slowly, it's a little gross, but it works, promise.
