I am English and my husband is Scottish,

When my mother-in-law recently visited from Scotland she was saying that the scottish people are more friendly than the english. My husband obviously agreed.

She was saying that when workmen visit her home she would always offer them coffee/tea etc. She always chats to people. That in general scottish are more friendly.

Your mother in law may be biased, because she is Scottish.

In both countries, there are both nice and not nice people. As usual, don't generalise.

I would suggest that people in more affluent area's are nicer than those on poor council estates.

I'm not Scottish, but I live there and I have visited England. That is generally what I hear.

Your mother in law is absolutley correct.
Scottish people are very friendly and have hearts of gold- most will do anything for anyone- We are proud of our heritage and our people are among the friendliest in the world.
If you are in any doubt, ask yourself who the football hooligans are in the Uk... I rest my case :-)

Scots are friendly in that they'll talk to you but that's about it. Am I right in thinking you are from the south of England?
