My hands are so dry, they have red blotches and feel rough. Whenever I use cream to soften them, I always come out in a reaction which involves bad stinging, and red blotches becoming more prominant. I have considered going to a dermatologist, but was wandering if y'all had a few ideas/home remedies/solutions/advice I could try first ;)
I have tried ... E45, Aqueus Cream, Atrixo, all brands ive tried of hand cream have resulted in further stinging and blotchyness.
Some days it is worse than others, and somedays i dont even need to put on cream and its ok. But this varies to days where the skin is broken to the point it looks like it has little cuts on it. The sore areas are around the knuckles and between 1st finger and thumb.
Ive explained all I can think of, and I'd love some advice, thankyou sooo much! x

You could try rubbing them with vaseline at night and covering them with mittens or socks while you sleep. Rubbing them with olive oil or Vitamin E oil might also help.

couple of options, both likely to help. Its just a matter of finding out which works best for you -
1. Mix 6-8 drops pure lavender essential oil with any base oil (olive, almond etc.) the sort you cook with is fine too. smother hands in the oil and then put on plastic or cotton gloves or wrap in clingfilm for at least an hour - more if you can.
2. Go to a LUSH shop or www.lush.co.uk and buy a pot of dream cream. I promise this wont give you a reaction and is very feeding for your skin. Use as often as you like and you can do the glove thing or cling film with this too. (this cream is the only thing which worked for my boys with incredibly sensitive skin- which used to commonly bleed it was so bad- i swear by it and its so much better than anything the dr's tried)

Try some mild steriod cream from a pharmacy. If that doesnt work see your GP he can give cream or maybe test you for allergic reactions to different substances in case that is a cause. If you use a cream put it on at night with a pair of cotton gloves, this will help your skin to absorb the cream due to the heat on your hands that the gloves cause. Hope this is helpful

Vit E cream works for some people. Or something i've got my friend to use works wonders for her. Have you tried Aromatheraphy oils?? ROMAN CHAMOMILE, LAVENDER or PATCHOULI. These you can buy in Most Health shops. All you need to do is buy some carrier oil (the health store will be able to tell you if they have any) Mix Half a bottle of carrier oil with 5 tea-spoons of your chosen oil and then massage onto the area affected. Ive given you a brief discription of what each of the above oils are used for ok: ROMAN CHAMOMILE - Cuts, allergies, eczema, inflamation and rashes. LAVENDER - Antiseptic, skin rejuvenating, antispasmodic and nerve sedative. PATCHOULI - Acne, eczema, sore and chapped skin. Make sure you wash hands first with warm water and a mild non perfummed soup before x Any other info i can be of help with using Aromatheraphy email me at arabsaigold@hotmail.com

Try using coconut oil on your hands. You can buy pure coconut oil for about £1 from your local chemist. When you open the tub, the oil is solid. Scoop out a bit about the size of a bean and rub it in your hands to melt it and then spread over your hands and work it in. I find if my hands are dry and sore, I use the coconut oil and then apply a non-scented handcream about ten minutes later. If I do this several times a day (and especially before going to bed when it will remain undisturbed for several hours) for a few days, my hands improve quite a lot.

I have had similar problems. I found that PURE shay butter works great. I was able to find it at a grocery store specializing in organic foods and beauty products. Its so thick that its almost like spreading wax on your hands. But that's good because it sticks in the dry cracked skin and prevents further cracking, it doesn't wipe or wash off easy, a small tub will last a couple months and it kinda smells nice. Last year in January I started using it and my hands were completely healed in less than a month. I hope it works for you too, good luck.
