I actually dont think this is the best time to have a dog. I am a mother of 1 and have a dog and both are so time consuming. I cant imagine having twins and a brand new dog at the same time. Please understand it is not a personal attack. Lets just say you get a dog and have later decided that you do not want the dog after all because it is too much. How fair would that be to the dog?? You most definitely would not get rid of your twins would you? It would ultimately come down to getting rid of the dog.

But if you absolutely have to have a dog then just adopt.

Purina has an excellent dog breed chooser on their website.
Just answer a few questions and it will point you in the right direction to the right dog for your situation.

*** I personally have a pure bred Sheltie ***

I have owned Labs, Golden Retrievers, Alaskan Malamutes amongst many.
I cannot say enough about the 2 shelties that we have, loves the family, VERY loyal, obedient, gentle and have yet had them had a bad day.

You might consider that your life is going to be very full with new twins. I could have an effect that you don't get to spend the kind of time necessary to raise a dog or puppy. Plus, I'll bet it is at least a year of age in children before they can do much "bonding" to the pets. I'd recommend you see how hectic life for you is after the kids are born before considering a new pet just because of all the attention they need and deserve.

I have a Coton de Tulear puppy. This breed is part of the Bichon Frise family and is originally from Madagascar. It is white and fluffy and ranges from 10 to 15 pounds. She is adorable and loves people and other dogs. I'm a dog lover, but I love dogs even more thanks to her! Also, they don't shed and have no genetic illnesses.

I am not going to recommend a type of dog.
But try and pick a dog that does not shed a lot. (For you and your child's sake.)
Also do not pick a dog that is big and could hurt the child.

A smaller dog that does not have much fur would be best.

If you have allergies that is a whole different story!
And you should pick a dog that loves more than one person and is good with company, family, and friends!
That is all I have to tell you, and best of luck trying to find your future dog!

And congratulations on your children!

Smaller short haired dog, or a Border Collie.

If i were you i would definately get a Shihtzu. My neighbor and i both have them for our young children and they are excellent dogs. the only hard part is potty training the dogs, but i didnt see it as a major issue because its defintaely worth it. these dogs are fabulous. you should definately look into them for you family. if your looking for a bigger dog, great danes are also great with kids. ^^same things apply^^

A nice stuffed dog that a cat could play with is good.
