If you have Adobe Acrobat, you can make minor adjustments to text.
If the document is fairly simple, you can use a program to convert it to Word, then edit the Word file. After making changes, then you can use a PDF Writer to remake the PDF file.

The simplest way I have found to modify PDF Files (and the cheapest) is to buy a copy of PagePlus11 from Serif:
http://www.serif.com/pageplus/pageplus11/index.asp
They have an import facility where you can load a pdf file and change it. It has all sorts of other things you can do with PDF files such as produce PDF forms.
I have personally tried this software out and it works a treat.

You either need to use pitstop professional which can edit anything in a pdf or open them into adobe illustrator, since illustrator CS its been pdf based.
If the worst comes to the worst and you cant do it and the content of the pdf's is neither personal nor sensitive, drop me a mail, i'll make changes for you, not difficult and wouldn't take long to do.
ps. the people saying its difficult or impossible to do have no idea what they are talking about, anybody that works in reprographics could do it standing on their heads, they are making the mistake of thinking that because THEY dont know how to do something, no-one does.

Two ways you can do:
1. Install a plugin called Pitstop for Acrobat, not the Reader version.
2. Open the PDF file in Illustrator CS or later and edit the content but you need to load the correct fonts first.

Pdf is an output format, not an editable file. The point of pdf is to stop people editing them.
The only thing you can try is to print them out, then scan them using Optical Character Recognition software. Import them into your word processor, translate, then export as a pdf.

Very difficult to do. PDF files are not easily converted to Word or WordPerfect files, so you can't just convert the data. The only thing you may be able to do is use a scanner. I wish I remember the name of the program, but there is one that can take a scanned document and convert it to Microsoft Word format. It's not 100% accurate, so you'd have to edit it, but it beats having to type the whole thing over...

Well, I would use the Acrobat Professional from adobe if you can afford it. There are other options out there that are cheaper, but none of them free.
The low-budget way would be to save it as an image, edit it in your local program then print it back to pdf. Not very fun....

the pdf files are read only, but you can create it using a pdf writer like adobe prd writer or using the easypdf word plug in, or you can make a pdf file using the LaTeX program, but i dont think anyone here know about it
