There are no long-term studies for Aspartame, or Splenda, two of the more popular dietary sugar substitutes, so the best answer is "how do you feel"?
Of more concern is the caffeine, and 60oz. of diet coke can carry a good amount, particularly if you are a) young, and b) not the size of a water buffalo.
Really, if your kidneys aren't whining like too overrevved tubines set to blow, and you watch the caffeine, you're probably ok. Just watch out for growths, warts, moles, or other weirdness that shows up before the FDA bans the stuff...
Best wishes!

I used to drink diet soda all the time thinking it wasn't that bad. Even if yours is caffine free take a look at the sodium content. I bet it's pretty high, mine was. I switched to decaff tea sweetend with Splenda and love it. Not only that but since I'm not consuming all that sodium my body now retains less water and the uncomfortable bloating it gone. They're bad because of the chemicals!! Nutrasweet, aspertame, whatever. It doesn't belong in our bodies. It's just garbage - with or without caffeine.
I hate grapefruit - but it's really good for you, so I put grapefruit and orange slices in sparkling water.
the Aquafina Flavor Burst non-carbonated flavored waters. Yep, they're no calories, no caffiene....but...that 20 oz bottle has 65 mg of sodium per serving, and the bottle is 2.5 servings, making it 162.5 mg of sodium in the bottle that is way easy to chug down!
Just to put it in perspective a 12 oz can of diet coke is 35mg of sodium TOTAL. So I guess the way Aquafina is getting the flavor in there without any calories has something to do with sodium.
I learned this the hard way, over the last 2 weeks I gained 3 lbs, but was eating the same as I had been the whole challenge and exercising the same....I analyzed my menus, it wasn't food, so I thought about what I had been drinking, and voila! I was being obsessed with the Aquafina Flavor Burst since it was on sale for cheap all over the place. I was using it as my water for the day, too! So I was drinking extra sodium than even diet cokes AND not balancing myself out with more water like I do for sodium laden beverages. AKA if you have 1 can of diet coke, you should also combat that with an extra 12 ozs of plain water...to prevent bloating.
After I figured out the sodium thing I downed 200 ozs of water on Friday, and another 100 ozs on Saturday, and didn't have ANY caffiene or sodium laden beverages this weekend...and voila, its Monday and the 3 lbs plus some is gone...seriously, it was sodium!

Don't let people tell you that the artificial sweeteners are bad for you. I asked my doctor and he said that all the info that is floating around on the internet is false (I've actually had several doctors tell me that). Soda...diet or regular can dehydrate you, so limit yourself to 1 a day. Coffee has more caffine, but has antioxidants in it. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day...more if you drink more than 2-3 sodas

Not to a horrible degree, but it will get back to you before you know it! My health got a lot worse from drinking too much soda, deit too (not much better). Recently I switched over to Crystal Light. It comes in many flavors with great taste, but is healthy at the same time. You can try out a free sample over at http://urlx.org/89ab5. That's how I tried it the first time.

why would you drink so much. of course it's not healthy. the most important thing in life is to stay healthy. who agrees with me? it doesn't matter if you're pretty, or you're rich. what are you going to do with all that money if you die? do you get my point here? life is a very precious thing and you should appreciate it. the number one priority in life is too stay healthy so you can live happily ever after. i wish you a long life my friend. just start by stop drinking so much soda. okay. happy thanksgiving!

One can is bad enough. It can also cause weight gain and gallstones.
My doctor recommended I drink a regular coke vs. a diet coke IF I absolutely had to have one.

I know this...artificial sweeteners are damaging to developing minds. If this is true, all people who continue to learn are at risk. I try to limit my intake only because evidence is contradictory and inconclusive.
