Multiple counts of a crime....say for example....if a person is convited of 3 counts of murder...they would get life for each count....Personally I think that if a person gets life then they should be givin the dealth penalty....why pay all that money to keep a person alive who does not deserve to be and that will never contribute to it again.

A life sentence is 25 years. With good behavior that person can be out in maybe 15 years. Multiple life sentences do involve convictions for multiple crimes or multiple counts for the same crime. Getting one life sentence tacked on the back of another is a way of making sure that the person never gets out. It's another way of saying "life sentence without the possibility of parole."

A Life sentence generally allows for parole in 20 years. Multiple life sentences "stack" the amount of years it takes for parole.
For example:
2 life sentences = 20 + 20 years before parole
3 life sentences = 20 + 20 + 20 years before parole.
This gives someone no chance at parole, meaning they actually spend the rest of their lives in prison.

life means a specific time in prison oin most states. some have lesser terms to be served, others have a greater term before being eligible for parole. multiple terms can be served cosecutivetl or concurrently. that determines how long the felon has to remain in prison. if consecutive, he serves first one then another and then another. if concurrently, he serves all at the same time. each state determines how long a life term is. it may be a minimum of forty years before parole is even possible, or itmay be never if life without parole. each stae's sytem may allow good time, or it might not, which can also be a factor on when parole can be recieved.

This is the thing, according to our screwy legal system, life in prison doesn't necessarily translate to a person being in jail for the rest of his/her life. Under some jurisdictions, life is 20 years. It doesn't make sense, I know. On the other hand with health technology being what it is now a days, do you really want a murderer to get out in 20 years just so he can kill again? I think that the legal system should use simpler language to deal with criminals.

Its for multiple charges. Like 3 counts of murder, 2 counts of sexual assault, etc. If the person appealed and got off on one charge, they would still have the other life sentences to serve.

An eye for an eye thats what I say. Let the prisoner who kills be killed and feel the fear of death, that way they can get a feel of what the victim went through minutes before their death, from the day they have commited that crime, i believe god will take care of everything they need and deserve aswell for when they pass over.
