every day for the past 7 years n I try to prevent them n it keeps coming back n I get throat infections n they r now coming more often! Do u think it is time for me to insist that my doctor take them out? I have wanted them out years ago but my doctor said he would not take them out unless he had to. I do n't think they can serve their purpose properly any way in the state they r in! Thank you!

have u ever been checked for allergies. allergies can sometimes cause sore throats. is is a strep? i think the rule of thumb is if u have 4 streps in one year they take it out. anyway if it is allergies it won't do any good to remove the tonsils because your throat would still hurt.

i suffer from allergies and my main symptom is a sore throat. i have not had tonsils for over 10 years now and i still get the sore throat.

First off, just because you have had sore throats a lot does not necessitate the removal of your tonsils. By having them removed you are prone to more serious infections.

There are other causes for your sore throats such as, allergies, voice strain, a simple cold, cronic coughing, sinus drainage, the list can go on.

I had my tonsils out when I was six. But that was extenuating circummstances. I was also prone to ear infections and 72% deaf. My tonsils literally stopped doing their job and became severly infected. Now, at the age of 34, I wish I still had my tonsils. I probably would not be so ill all the time.

Allow your doctor to determine when. But as long as you are having problems, keep written records of when, conditions at the time, and your environment. These will help your physician in determining the right time for you to have your tonsils out.

Good luck.

You need to talk with your doctor about the risks versus the benefits of having them removed. This is major, major surgery for an adult and is more difficult the older you get. The doc will look at how often you have had strep, tonsillitis, etc. over the past year along with whether or not leaving the tonsils in is otherwise jeopardizing your health/immune system. I had mine out in my 20s and it was a horrible recovery. However, I haven't had strep or mono since. The week prior to removing mine, there was a Chicago DJ who died during a routine tonsillectomy. Sorry to be so negative, but it can turn out great or not... Maybe you want to get a 2nd opinion??
