Although proposals at a nice restaurant are romantic and sweet, hundreds of other men (and women!) propose this way. Because this will be a moment she will cherish and a story she will tell forever (and repeatedly for the next six months) make it a unique moment that stands out.
Think about things she loves or places she likes. Incorporate it into a special day or night and make it truly unique to her. She will love you much more for going out of your way.
Even if your soon-to-be fiancee is shy, ALL women want to be center of attention for a moment in time. Put her on a pedestal and declare your love for her in the biggest way possible...she will truly appreciate it now (and later) and brag to all her friends!

Originality or the old fashion and yet very romantic "get on one knee"...which would you prefer?
I would love for my guy to propose by taking me to a romantic dinner and popping the question after dinner. If you are brave, you can ask to have the attention of the entire room...people love that sort of thing.
I had a friend who wanted badly to put the engagement ring in a fortune cookie, he did not do it as he just did the first suggestion instead at a chinese restaurant. But, I really loved the idea...
Freeze the ring in an ice cube and drop it into a glass of something yummy for her...make it a transparent drink, so she will notice the ring...
Christmas is coming up...how about missletoe with the ring tied up within the mistletoe...
Or gather all your friends and family that you can and ask her with everyone present, on bended knee of course...very romantic.

I do not know the allure of asking in a crowded restaurant, or even to have food involved. It is hardly original, and is quite over played. Plus, if she says no, leaving the restaurant would be quite awkward. Ask her while you are doing something you normally do, it will be a much bigger surprise and it will make that task/chore more enjoyable in the future.
I asked my wife to marry me at her office. It was not unusual for me to visit her and go to lunch. I showed-up, chatted with her a bit, and then down on one knee and asked her. From then on, it made going to her very stressful job more enjoyable since she could always remember that is where I proposed.

Invite her over for a nice dinner at your place. Before she gets there light a whole bunch of little votives and place them all over the house. Pay close attention to lighting a path along the hallways. Get some rose petals and sprinkle them everywhere, even the bedroom. Probably get bonus points for petals placed in a heart shape on the bed..You can place a path of Hershey kisses all the way to the bathroom where, you would pull back the shower curtain and somehow write a message about showering her with all your love. Of course this is where you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you...I bet she will forget about dinner..congrats!

Ok I've previously posted this but see what you think...
A friend of mine took his at the time girlfriend on a picnic to their college campus (from which they both met and graduated-this can be modified to something more true to you) Then he secretly hired a photographer who photographed everything paparazzi style! From them walking, sitting & eating, down to him on one knee and her crying and covering her mouth in shock (true Kodak moments)! It was great and best part was the whole thing was documented which is a rarity. Having those pictures is truly priceless. I highly recommend this not only will you have an amazing story to tell but you will have photos to show!

Do you two have a place that is special to the both of you for any reason? Where did you meet? Where were you when you first said, "I love you"? Take her somwhere thoughtful and tell her all the sweet stuff (don't skip out on this part it is important to most females) then tell her how much you love her, get down on one knee and ask her!

First of all, buy a decent ring. A diamond, please.
For thanksgiving... put it inside the cavity of the turkey. Tell her that she forgot to pull the gizzrd bag out , then she will reach in and find the ring, buy then you woud be on your knees. hhehe

something out of the world that no one elses would think of to make it really magical--- rent a billboard for a day and have the the question up there, or take her on a trip and have one of the flight attends say something like "Sandy, your b.f. Sam has a question he would like to ask you.." then stand up and ask it. Just make it unique and something she will never forget

Think of her favorite place you can take her too. Spend all day with her. Make her feel like the princess she really is. At the end of the day take her to that place and ask her there. She'll love it
