I'm in my 20s and am very prone to throat infections due to oversized tonsils. I am considering having them removed. Any advice? Will it change my voice?

my sister had her tonsils taken out when she was 11. Even though she was young it never had any effect on her voice at all. I looked this up on the net....According to reference book “Encyclopedia and Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health,” the tonsils are lymphoid tissues that are often partially embedded in the mucous membranes. The tonsils’ primary function in this system is its vigilant prevention of pathogen invasions in the upper respiratory tract. This is made possible by the abundance of lymph nodes in its framework thus filtering out the circulating lymph of bacteria and any other foreign material that gain access to the body especially those that pass through the nose and the mouth. Your tonsils are not any where near your voice box. The Palatine tonsils at the back of the throat are located a fair distance from the larynx or voicebox.
It may take awhile to heal after your get your tonsils out. My suggestion is: try drinking soda, like 7-up or any clear liquid with carbonated water. It will make the healing work faster. The carbonated water helps clear the mouth and throat.

I had my tonsils removed 2 years ago when I was 22. People kept telling me how awful it was to have your tonsils removed as an adult however, my experience was very easy. It did not change my voice at all. I was in a lot of pain the first few days but went back to work in about 4 days...even the doctor told me it would be at least 2 weeks. The best news is I have not had ONE throat infection since! I 100% recommend doing it if you're plaugued like I was!

It changed my daughters voice. She had a real high pitched voice and after the surgery she had a lower voice. I asked the Doctor about this and he said that it happens to some but not all patients and he was not sure why.
