Because the Lord said he will come down from the clouds and takes us UP with him.. Lucifer was thrown out of heaven and DOWN to earth.

cause heaven originally was the term used for the skies, what we now call "outer space" or the "universe" they called the heavens. the starts in the heavens. that is why heaven is depicted as generally up. hell would be the opposite of heaven so it is seen as the opposite direction.

Heaven is not up or down.

The Gospel of Thomas:
