Yes, but it took a while for it to kick in properly and I had nausea and severe tiredness as side effects, but they didn't last long. Once we found the right dose for me I was grateful to the Dr who convinced me that they were the way to go and helped immensely on my road to recovery

Hi,
It helped me, I was 'severly' depressed according to the doctors little test thing she did. I couldn't get up, I was exhausted and I just wanted to die. I didn't have much reason to be depressed and so obviously counceling and stuff probably wouldnt have helped me much but she gave me fluoxetine and I took them, even after a couple of weeks I felt so much better I couldn't recognise myself. I think then I realised that depression can be a chemical imbalance as well as an actual mental disorder and from then on I ddin't feel the same crushing guilt and sense of selfishness I'd had for the last 6 or so months that I felt this awful when there are so many worse off people out there and anger at myself for not being able to 'pull myself out of it'. I've stopped taking them now and for the first time in ages I am feeling brilliant about my life. So yes they helped me lots. However I wouldn't take starting any drugs lightly, I really had to think about it before I did start taking them.

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..
But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

fluoxetine, aka prozac, has helped an enormous number of people with depression, anxiety, and panic disorder. While there was some bad press on the drug a while back, it occured mostly because family practitioners, not being familiar with the drug and it's potential, prescribed it for the wrong people.
It is always recommended that if you are found to need an antidepressant drug, you should consult a psychiatrist for your first prescription and follow up with him every six months, seeing your family doctor in between for monitoring.

i took it when i was diagnosed with dysthymia and depression back in 2004 it helped after the 6 month getting used to it but it didn't actually stop anything i still got very down and started sleeping alot and i still had no motivation so i guess it depends on the person.. some say anti depressants are a bit of a placebo at times i mean they tried tricking patients on the ward where i was into taking empty capsules and they were seen getting better so i guess who knows but personally not me. I stopped taking them because i tried to o.d on them and made myself all zonked out so...

It really helped with my depression, but I suffer from unstable moods and my moods go quite high as well and fluoxetine can cause high moods in some people, but it really works well for depression.

It just made me want to sleep all the time and numbed my mind so much that i was void of any emotion. Can't say it cured the depression or that it helped as such but it did give me the kick i needed to get myself back on my feet. ie, i realised i personally needed to do something about the depression rather than rely on meds.

It didn't help my daughter, but she wasn't monitored very closely. I think that any anti-depressants should be used short term otherwise they can cause more problems than they solve. Personally, I would look to alternative medicine but that's because of my daughter's bad experience with Seroxat, I'm sure it worked for many people.

It definitely helped me. I gained enough energy from severe depression to exercise and lose 73 lbs.
