Guys like to be answered straight up. All those times that you were nice and ended up leading them on, was more aggravating and more frustrating to them than if you had just been rude. Really, it is okay to just say, "Thanks, I'm flattered, but I am not available."
It is easy, not lying and you are cut loose. If he baulks at that or continues to try to get you to go out with them, then you have all the right in the world to get rude.

Just tell him you appreciate the offer but.....you're not ready yet for a serious relationship. Tell him that you have plans...things that you want to do for yourself before you commit to a man. If he is a decent guy....he will understand. And remember...there is a difference in just going out with a guy a time or two..and a serious relationship. Don't let life pass you by while you're trying to get ahead in life.

Answer....you seem to be a nice guy but at this moment in life I am focused on getting myself settled financially. Perhaps down the road we can go out. Or.....I am a flaming lesbian and I am not interested in men. I think either would work.

however if you really want to know the nicest way of saying no
just imagine if it was the other way round...there is no "nice" way...but what would be the way YOU would want to be told?

Unfortunately its one way or the other. They are either going to say you are rude, or they are going to think you are leading them on. THIS HAPPENED TO ME ALL THE TIME. If you are nice about it, then they think you're leading them on. If you are blunt about it, then they think you are rude. Its just so that they feel better about themselves. I wouldnt fret too much. Good luck

Just let him know that you are not interested in dating right now. This is not a good time in your life for you to be involved with anyone. You are working on setting yourself straight and acheiving your goals. (Good for you!)
That's all they need to know.
If they press you for more dates or attention; never explain yourself a second time.

just say "hey, im not looking for anything like that right now. im working on me right now, and dont have time for a guy. nothing against you, but it just doesnt fit in my life right now." really you dont owe anybody any excuse, but if you feel you do, thats a nicer way of putting it!
