My 13 month old son has a red, swollen eyebrow and eyelid. At first I thought he had bumped his eye on something as he is always falling, but it's been there since Sat. and isn't getting any better. I was thinking if it were from him bumping it that it would have turned black/blue by now. I'm worried it's a spider bite.
Does anyone have any experiences with spider or other insect bites that you can tell me?
The earliest the doc can see him is tomorrow afternoon, so I was just wanting some opinions/experiences that other people have had. Thanks.

It doesn't sound like a spider bite, if it was a poisonous spider your son would be sick, it's more likely to be a stye but only your doctor can tell you.

It has been my experience with all my spider bites, that the bite should have a small white blister in the center of it. A small, fluid-filled dot where the actually bite took place. You might look around for something like that if it hasn't been too long. There are only two poisonous spiders in the US and since it has been 3-4 days since his bite and he is still alive (Black Widow) and the bite has not started to breakdown the tissue around it (with Brown Recluse) I wouldn't worry about it being a dangerous spider bite. You also have to realize that a baby's skin is much more delicate than ours and his system is totally unaccustomed to such things as insect bites so he will have a much worse reaction than say you or I. He will do just fine seeing the doc as you have planned.

I had a bite on my back a few weeks ago and it took FOREVER to heal but it finally did. Most spiders are harmless when they bite so I wouldn't worry too much about it. He will be fine if it's a spider bite but keep your appt. with the doctor just to check out his eye.
