I have a 2-year old TV that has a glitch. When turned on the screen stays black, but the volume works. After being left on for 30-seconds to a couple minutes the screen turns on and the TV works fine. My wife wants me to get rid of it and buy new, but we aren't the Rockafellars.

Does anyone know if this is a cheap repair job, or is it going to be as costly as a new TV to fix it?

I agree with "idiotwind" that sounds like an AKB problem. a re-adjustment of the master screen control should solve the problem

It may be just a loose connection, which is super easy to fix, as long as you can find it. If it's a Magnavox/Philips it's probably the CRT bias needs to be adjusted (G2), very touchy on those.
