I can understand why all God haters have such a time with this concept. It seems that the randomness of the creation has no meaning other than it happened. For those of us who hold faith in God we see His intent in creation.. And that in to Love and to be loved... Jim

The only thing I find frustrating on this topic is the possibility that no Purpose may actually exist. As much of a miracle as life is, I'm not comfortable with the idea that everything on Earth (and elsewhere) was just some stupid accident. For whatever reason, I prefer thinking that we're here to fulfill SOME purpose.

What you are talking about sounds rather near to an insight I call the Godel Paradox, in homage to the Godel's Incompleteness Theorum.
Since knowledge demands proof, and all systems of logic are based on axioms (which are, by definition, unprovable), then ultimately, we can known nothing. I have to operate on the acceptance that my observations are meaningful and reflect the universe, I have to operate on the acceptance that math and logic are valid. I cannot prove either of these things.
When you realize that the very basics of epistomology show that you can't even know if you yourself exist, you run a very dangerous gauntlet. You risk losing sense of yourself. Even the sense of reality's existance becomes distant.
There is no resolution to the Godel Paradox. Even were there a deity, the question of original existence is still unknowable because it remains unproofable. The only way to cope with the Godel Paradox is to understand that if you give into it, you lose yourself and reality's existence. You cannot change your perceptions, you can only react to them moment to moment as seems most appropriate.
You might never truly know a THING... but at least you'll remain functional. It's a compromise, and the only available one to prevent destruction of Self by the Paradox.

Stop looking at yourself and within and begin looking at this wonderful planet. Everything works together; however, why do we need a purpose? We don't, other than our own personal goals in life for ourselves and our loved ones.
Read "The Blindwatch Maker" by Richard Dawkins and you'll enter the beautiful world of science where secrets are unfolding everyday.
What is anythings purpose but to live and respect everything around you because everything only has one tiny opening to live. Such think of yourself as lucky for every day you're able to enjoy this world.

If you don't believe the idea involves religion than ask yourself "Why am I posting this question in the religion section?" Everyone has a purpose and destiny here on earth. Our first destiny is to reconnect with the God from which we came and that means accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. From there, God will give you your purpose and destiny as you are ready for it. He has shown me a bigger picture of what I am called to do but gives me baby steps to get there. If your that frustrated that you cannot sleep at night, then the Holy Spirit is giving you the urgency and nudge you need to find your answer. If you don't believe that God is real and you've never felt his presence, then why don't you try praying and asking Him to show you that He's real. I guarantee you that He will make Himself known to you in a very tangible real way that will be unmistakable. From there on out, you will find the direction that you need and the peace that you seek.

I know what you mean, it can drive you to distraction.
I look at it this way. You never see a wild animal (even a primate) sit around and wonder what it all means... what their purpose is. They eat, sleep, and procreate. That is their purpose. To participate in recycling the free energy at the surface of the earth.
That is our purpose too. Our brains are just smart enough to make us wonder if that's "enough" but not smart enough to actually find some deep answer. I think our brains are flawed in that. We go crazy trying to find an answer and there is none. Except to eat, sleep, and procreate. Humans will be gone in a few thousand years. All of your science, philosophy, religion will be meaningless... poof!
So enjoy life, forget about any deep answers, there are none.

But my friend, how can anyone advise you if you've already decided that our answers have all been "conjured up"? If you need deep truth for your peace of mind, you'd better open yourself up to this deep truth: there is more--VASTLY more--to life than our little childlike minds and our measly five senses could ever begin to encompass.
Personally, I find that trusting in God works perfectly well for me.
Good luck in your search!

Exactly !!
No one really knows for sure and it can drive you nuts. That's why people will believe just about anything
Sorry, I wish I knew what to do to solve that frustration, but i don't, I suffer from the same thing.
Don't let it get to you too bad, enjoy the present, it may be all there is so why screw that up?

I do know why I am here and it never frustrates me- infact it makes more sense everyday! I believe in Jesus Christ and what the Bible says. God made us for Him- and to worship Him and love Him. God reveals the truth to me through His Holy Spirit when I am studying the word. And the more I look at creation the more it makes sense that God is indeed in control and awesome.
John 1:3
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
To those who believe:
2 Timothy 1:9
who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,

The truth is that some of us really DO know why we are here and what our purpose is. The ones who don't, don't want to know bad enough to be open minded and listen.
