Bake your potatos until soft. Let them cool down enough to handle -- peel and cut into bite size pieces. Place the pieces in a buttered 13x9 pan, add about 1/2 cup of brown sugar (sprinkle on top of potatos), sprinkle with chopped pecans. Pour bag of marshmallows on top and even out. Bake at 350 until mallows are gooey and brown on top. Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!

After baking your sweet potatoes, remove the skin. You can either mash them or cut them in hunks (my favorite). Add brown sugar, vanilla flavoring (very important!), butter, a little salt, cinnamon or nutmeg, walnuts are good, so are pineapple chunks, a little milk, a couple of eggs (beat them together with milk then add). Use all of the ingredients to your taste; you can't mess this dish up. Lay all of this out in a greased dish, then simply put your marshmallows on top completely covering the dish. Bake in a 350 or 400 degree oven for approximately twenty minutes (remember, the potatoes are already cooked when you begin). This is about as old fashioned as you can get. Now go impress the whole darn bunch! It is really about the same thing you do with canned sweet potatoes and no one will ever know the difference. Happy Thanksgiving.

INGREDIENTS
4 medium sweet potatoes
1/4 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/3 cup milk
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
DIRECTIONS
1.Adjust oven rack to low position and heat oven to 400 degrees. Place potatoes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil. Bake until fork tender, about 45 to 60 minutes. Let cool slightly.
2.Handling the potatoes with a potholder, slice each in half lengthwise and scoop potato flesh into a blender or food processor - for an especially silky texture, use the blender - leaving a 14-inch border of flesh to support the potato skin. Puree scooped-out flesh, along with salt and pepper, until smooth. With machine motor running, gradually add both milks through feeder tube. Stop machine, add butter, then process until potatoes are silky smooth. (Puree and potato shells can be cooled, then refrigerated in an airtight container, up to 2 days.
3.Return to room temperature before proceeding.) Spoon puree back into each shell. Just before baking, press marshmallows into potatoes.
4.Bake at 400 degrees until potatoes are hot and marshmallows are golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes.

I say no, it's kind of juvenile. A much better topping would be a praline type- with pecans and brown sugar- here's a simple recipe that looks really elegant: PECAN TOPPED SWEET POTATOES 3 c. cooked sweet potatoes 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 c. butter TOPPING: 1 c. light brown sugar 1/3 c. plain flour 1 c. chopped pecans 1/3 c. butter Mix sweet potato mixture thoroughly with electric mixer and pour into buttered casserole dish. Spread top with pecan topping. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Just sub the can stuff for real sweet potato *
There is two way of making the mashed sweet potatoes
* peel them and boil them in water with a pinch of salt
* oven roasted until tender and then peel it and mash it
mix it with the rest of the ingredients and then bake, add the marshmallows when there's 10 / 15 min. left of baking.
