I have ADD and it's been interfering with my school work. I live away from home and we have a week off where I scheduled an appointment with my physician.

I know he has to recommend me to a psychiatrist to get a prescription for adderall but I won't have time to see one until mid-December.

Is it possible for my physician to prescribe me just one month's worth? I've heard of people getting it when they were in the same situation as mine.

Yes, a doctor can prescribe it to you as often as he likes without you seeing a pshyciatrist. Where do you people come up with some of your information around here!!!! Who told you that a doctor can't prescribe that for you???

Aderrall is an amphetamine, therefore, I wouldn't imagine that any ethical Doctor would write you a prescription based on your own self diagnosis. That would essentially make them a speed dealer.

Many students today request Adderall from doctors in order to use it as a study aid. Thus, it is increasingly popular on college campuses. The largest benefit to students, however, is Adderall's ability to give students the power to focus on and learn what would usually be uninteresting material.

Do you think that your Doctor doesn't already know this?

I doubt he will write you the script; If you're truly ADD, a full Psych evaluation is required, especially to get amphetamines.

Yes, they can, but if you've never been on an anti-ADD medication then are you sure you'd rather not talk to a psychiatrist first? I mean, these are very heavy-duty drugs. I would encourage you to be really well-informed about them. Just make sure you tell your doctor everything about your health and any other medications you are currently on so the pharmacist knows what dosage to prescribe you with.

a good physician would not just prescribe adderall for just one month. it is possible to find a physician or psychiatrist close to where you are. most doctors like to check up with you when you are prescribed to certain meds. just talk to you physician about options to help treat you ADD. they probably have lots of suggestions for you.

No. It's a very controlled drug and has to be monitored closely. You've never been on anything for ADD before? Then how do you know you have it? It seems to be the "disease of the week" anymore. Everyone seems to have it. They have to make sure that's what it is before they prescribe it.

You need to ask your doctor that question.
