I am doing a theme project for my art history class, and I am looking for art with angels in it to go with the song "In the Arms of the Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. Is there any specific era or artists where I could search to find art with angels? (So far I have only looked at Bougoureau, who has some good ones.)

My favourite artists who produced pictures of angels would be Botticelli and Burne-Jones, but there are hundreds to choose from as you'll see from my links.

I have attached several links,

Link 1 - Illusions Gallery with various paintings of angels
Link 2 - Artcyclopedia with links to lots of angels pictures
Link 3 - Sandro Botticelli angels (detail)
Link 4 - Burne-Jones angel

Probably the best angels are the ones done by Raphael Sanzi, such as the little cherubs that are shown by theselves, but are really part of the The Sistine Madonna, which is found in Dusseldorf. Much of the work of the Renaissance focused upon the Story of Jesus, the Annunciation, His birth, his miracles and his crucifixion and Resurrection. A favorite of mine is the Virgin, the Baby Jesus and St. Anne by Leonardo da Vinci.

How about the Sistine Chapel? Fra Angelica is another source.
