Your fear is understandable, but consider that Jesus said once to his disciples that they shouldn't fear the power of man, because the worst thing a man could do is kill you. But God, after one's life has ended, can cast one's soul into eternal torment. (Matthew 10:28) Therefore, weighing both ideas, which is the most dreadfull?
The problem would be if you don't believe there is life AFTER death. But, certainly, there are no unbelievers the other side...

You are very materially oriented.
You think that man is immortal and invincible. Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Napoleon Bonaparte, Adolf Hitler, Stalin. Ho Chi Minh, etc, they're all gone now. All their powers were temporary. The world still keeps on turning. The time still keeps on passing.
Nobody among them has brought back time, nobody has physically at their own will defied the laws of gravity, or have controlled. their own heartbeats
Surely, they have killed and destroyed bodies, but they have not destroyed the very souls of human beings. Their combined limited powers were only on the surface but never on the depths or heights of an Almighty and omniscient Creator.

You probably fear the power of man because man can kill you and you can see it. God may not scare you that much because he loves everyone and everything. God is wise, and us humans can put things out of hand. Maybe you are scared because us people can do bad... while god cannot.

One of the things the bible constantly talks about is "the fear of God". Which at first I thought was strange, why should you fear what gives you love at all times. I realized this means that your scared to not follow him and his ways, because of his vengence and justice. To fear man more then God would mean that you care more about this life then about the next, which is in my opinion, is a wise choice.

Only you can answer this question. Probably it's because man is right in front of you and you can understand any pain inflicted on you by man. It should be the other way around if the bible is your standard and you are a christian.
Matthew 10:28 (New International Version)
28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

~~~ avalancas ,,,Because Mankind has always had a tenendcy to Anthropomorphize his gods and thus has given his gods Human Attributes. Gods are fictional characters and can only do the harm that humans attribute to Him. Man is Real,,, and he continues to wreak havoc on his Fellow Man. Thus your "fear" is based on Reality and not Faith. Your "fear" then is consequently Real.
That, my dear Thomas, is the rub. Who do you ultimately trust? God for protection, lessons, and acceptance? Or man, with gold, lessons and acceptance. There is fear in both. But, the fear for God is from love and respect. Fear of man is about hurt and suffering
