that all depends alot the deer. if there around people alot then smell prolly wont bug them. ive been 20 yrds frum a deer and theve looked right at me and then went back to grazin. as far as gettin hit by a car its cuz they get mesmerised by the light and cant get out of it. and deer are extremely smart creatures. also bout the smell i dont think that matters a hole lot. i go huntin in jus normal clothing i dont wear sum scent proof quit coat or nuttin like that i jus wear normal clothing. also bout the scent deer estrus works like MAGIC!!! use it its awsome.

depends on how long they have been dead
and the average daily temperature. After
they have baked in the sun for a few days,
you can smell them 2 or 2 hundred yards
away.
I had a friend hit by a car once, graduated
top of his class at UVA. This is not an
endorsement of his intellect, after all it
is UVA.

Not being a deer, I can't tell you exactly how far they can smell... up to a few hundred meters, I would guess, but the wind direction changes that estimation. Suffice to say, they have a keen sense of smell. It matters too, otherwise people wouldn't have to sneak up on them from downwind.

Wind does matter "a lot". Just ask any serious deer hunter. It's also fairly cheap to stay scent free in the Field. Just keep your hunting clothes in a tote, use scent eliminating spray and wash your clothes in scent free non-UV brightener detergent. You can wear all the camo you want but if there's lots of UV brighteners in your clothes forget about tagging your buck. Also try using cover scents or attractants. I use doe urine. And if you have a dog keep em away! I also use that accuse for my woman LOL (just kidding).

Depends on the wind, elevation and distance. Also the deer has to attach that smell to humans. I think that the smell of a meat eating hunter who is sweating or just took a leak will upset them more than smoke.

My pops has shot plenty of deer while smoking during both bow and rifle seasons. That crap is myth.As far as BO,they can smell you quite a ways off...I'd guess at least half a mile.

The real question is just how smart are these deer if they smoke?

Very smart. A lot depends on the way the wind is blowing, how hard it is blowing etc.
