Beer and football.

Hahaha. It's a day of giving thanks, thanks for all that we each have in life. That's it, nothing else. If you're healthy, you have a family, you have a job, give thanks. If you can feed yourself and your family, be thankful. If somebody was ever kind to you, be thankful. Everybody has something. Thanksgiving Day is a day for you to recognize that. You could be dead, or have a horrific disease. Your children could be suffering. Be thankful dammit!!!

That being said, take the Lions and the points.

I never understood the self-hating Americans who hate this country because of its past. You do not have to live here if you do not want to. Leave. You can donate all that you have to any Native American association you want. They would be more than happy to accept your gift. Or, just hit the casinos on the reservations. Yes, America has a bloody and awful past. But out of the chaos came something great. The past IS the past. Move on dammit.

My Thanksgiving Day is full of so many of life's blessings -- and I'm not speaking those of monetary value -- that I'm grateful just to be there with my husband, mom and her husband and sister. I say all my thank you's to my Higher Power before I embark on my journey to fill my 3 day dietary quota and when we're all there, you can bet I soak up every minute of being there in one piece and you're damn right--be thankful people! And I'll be glad to watch whatever football game is on because I have terrible reception on my home TV. :)

I think consumerism is a HUMAN trait, and anyone, almost ANYONE will buy things they don't need. Like, seriously, the immigrants who come here, especially from Mexico, once they start making enough money, I've seen some of them buy at least 3 cars, all for themself. And you know why? Its more than just the thing, its the feeling you can afford this. I'm sure if you gave a kid in Africa who was parched and starving the choice between a gallon of water and a hershey bar he'd pick the candy, because its a symbol of wealth. Everybody wants to be where we are, so I say be rational but don't be ashamed of living it up. That's why everybody hates the U.S. as well, its like the jealous, poorer kid at the end of the block.

I agree totally.... except the beer and football part. ; )

But yes. I am very grateful for what God has given me. And I don't just thank Him on Thanksgiving... I think Him everyday I am alive.

EDIT:
I also agree with the last part you added.
I think it's the same for slavery... MOVE ON and stop trying to get compensation for it. The past is the past.
