My microwave will heat up anything else, but will not cook popcorn. It just burns it in like two minutes, but not all of it. It only gets about halfway full and is burnt. Is it my microwave? It's a brand new one...

Here's an old-timers trick...

Sometimes the microwaves are not 'focused' where you think they are. In a cup of tea, it doesn't make a difference if the hot spot is an inch up or down, but with popcorn, because it lies so flat, it may be a problem.

What to do? Turn a plate upside down and put it on the turntable. put your popcorn on top of (the bottom of) the plate. See if the performance is better.

Back in the 'old days' (I had an original Amana radarange), this was the ticket for getting the best performance.

Best wishes!

I'm assuming that you're using microwave popcorn bags. If this isn't right, please add more info to your question.

Some microwaves have a popcorn button. You could try that if you've been just putting it in for a while on high. However, if you have been using the popcorn button, I suggest putting about 4 minutes on the timer and then stand there and let it pop until there are about 2 or 3 seconds in between pops. If you've tried both the popcorn button and cooking it on high, you could try cooking it on 50 percent power, maybe? There's usually a "power level" button or something like that.

Also, you could look in the book that came with your microwave, and see if there's any info about popping popcorn in it. If you don't have the book, you might be able to find it online, just figure out the manufacturer of your microwave and the model.

Have you tried different brands of popcorn? I ALWAYS end up with a full bag of non-burnt popcorn using the brand of popcorn you get from Aldi (I think it's Corntown). I just put 2 minutes on the timer (it cooks on high, which is the default) and then it's perfectly done.

Good luck! I hope you get it figured out. It would be a shame not to be able to eat popcorn!

Mine used to do the same thing until I tried cooking it for a short time and it works. Instead of putting it in for 2 minutes just do 1. How long have you had the popcorn? If it's really old then that make be the cause. All the 'newer' microwaves burn things alot easier then the older ones. My mom has a microwave from god knows when, and I swear that thing cooks everything perfectly. Go figure!

No, it could have been soggy from the steam interior. Microwave popcorn burns if left interior the microwave after the kernels have all popped because of the fact the popping releases steam keeping the temperature decrease and it strikes the popped kernels around keeping them from sitting on the aluminum decrease floor of the bag. because of the fact of changes interior the contents, microwave popcorn could on no account be left unattended so as that it extremely is bumped off as quickly as popping stops. It takes only approximately 30 seconds previous final touch for burned kernels to smoke and a sprint extra to burst into flame. the former instruments off smoke alarms, the latter ruins the microwave. At my paintings internet site a sought after sign delivers "if the smoke alarm is going off, you pay for the emergency run, $a hundred and twenty"
