I don't know how your cat would enter the wrong way, but I'm sure it's entertaining to watch.

She probably gets it on the floor because they can get it stuck between their paw pads (or toes if that makes more sense). So when she comes out, she's tracking it with her. My 2 kittens do the same thing.

One easy solution to keeping most of it off your floor is to invest in a small mat that they make specifically for litter boxes. You can get them at a pet store, Target, or even some grocery stores. They're only about $6-$7 and they have little things that look like what they have at the bottom of sandals that "massage" your feet. Well, these "clean" the cats toes as it walks over it on its way out of the litter box. Then, when the mat gets full, just dump it in your garbage.

I'm not sure about this "wrong way" thing, but if your cat is missing the box, then there are several options.

While a covered litter box may help prevent unwanted items for hitting the floor, urine and poop will still hit the lid and either run out onto the floor or contaminate the lid, meaning more clean-up for you.

You may also want to try a larger litter box. Giving the cat a little more room may help to alleviate the problem.

When I had a cat that had a similar issue, I created an at home, but quite ugly, solution. I cut out 3 sides of a large cardboard shipping box and set the litter box inside of it. The bottom side of the box went under the box to hold it in place and then two upright sides kept the cat's hind end in the box. I placed the litter box against a wall and that acted as one more barrier. The litter box has to fit tightly against the cardboard box so that s/he will bump it if s/he's too close to the edge.

Good luck to you! : )

Good luck to you.

A little what? Urine? Litter? I have a 22 yr old cat who has no tail. She doesn't get all the way "in" and urine goes on the floor. I put a pad of four to five sheets of newspaper under the boxes she uses which soaks up most of the "overflow". I have composite floors which are washable and tile in the bathroom so it is not too hard to keep cleaned up. Carpet would be a real problem though.

I have three cats now with "furry" feet and they track litter outside the box. I have a Swivel Sweeper I got from a infomercial on Tv. It is really easy to whip that out and vacuum up litter.

enters the wrong way, easy make rails for the cat litter or put it in a cardboard box and only cut one entrance. Al so try a bigger box of card board so this save room for any pooo that get out side the litter box.

Your cat may have issues with his box, be grateful he's using it though, normally behavior like this will cause them to eliminate elsewhere. My suggestion to you is, if it's a covered litter box, take the cover off. If it's not covered, try a larger box and put newspaper underneath it to catch his mistakes. You may also want to try to buy a higher sided box if this one is very low. Good luck. I had a messy cat once and it's so frustrating.

Is the box big enough for her? Could be a behavioral thing or a medical thing. If she checks out healthy with the vet, then I say she may need Kitty "School". Don't laugh, as I knew a woman who trained her cat to use the toilet (no joke).

It sticks to their paws, plus mine kicks it out when he's trying to dig to China (a U.S. saying) to poop.
