I have only been exclusivly dating my girlfriend for about three weeks. She has one child. I have only been around him a couple of times. I am doing all my christmas shopping this coming weekend. I wasn't planning on getting the kid anything but my girlfriend made a comment that made me think she is expecting me to. I am dating her not him. I can see getting him somithing next year when I actually know the kid.

i think you should get the kid something because than it'll show the girlfriend that you're really interested...plus kids are a way to a girls heart....a good dad is always a bonus!!

The children are just babies, they don't care, they both would be happy with some paper to tear up or a pan to bang on with a spoon; the adults however are a different matter. This will be one of those "it is the thought that counts" situation, depending on your climate, buy your brother's gf's child a hat and some gloves, or something similar that typically is a set; wrap them separately so she will have at least two gifts to open. You might as well make nice-nice, this could be your future sister-in-law and niece, think about it, he's bringing both of them to a family gathering at Christmas, that's pretty high-level stuff right there :) Merry Christmas.

Don't buy him something and you will not need to worry about buying one next year. So what if you do not know him or have only been around him a couple of times, he is very important to her and getting him something will say a lot to her about you and how you feel about what is important to her. You do not have to break the bank on him. I have to disagree, you are dating him as well, they are a package deal, if you try to separate the two of you from the two of them, then you just need to say good-bye to her now, because that is what is coming anyhow.

Well it would be nice if you did, I mean come on know if you like her and everything, besides she already brought you around her child which means she cares, plus I think that would give you some points for thinking of her child and not only of her. Something I wanted to point out to you, you mentioned you are dating her not him, your wrong as soon as you already know she has a child and you accept her with him then you are accepting the whole package deal hunny.

Why don't you just buy something small as a nice gesture. It won't kill you and could avoid a difficult situation. In the meantime, you could try to spend a little time with him too. Love me, love my kid and all that....
