I want to know how much of a factor carbon dioxide really is with regard to global warming. I found out that the average new car expells about 150 grams of CO2 per mile. Sounds like a lot especially when you have a few hundred million cars in the world. However, when you consider that the atmosphere contains over a million trillion trillion cubic feet of CO2, pollution from cars may not be all that much. Does anyone have any hard numbers?

The key measure is "parts per million" or ppm. In the last 40 years (never mind 100), CO2 ppm has gone from about 150 to 370. Keep in mind that the average CO2 ppm for several MILLENIA until 1960 was in a range of about 110 to 225, so 370 is an aberation that is NOT a natural phenomenon. What's worse, by midcentury it will be up to 650 at current rates.

Quit guessing and depressing your self. Go measure it . the environmentalist guess 30 % but u are all wrong. I did work with CO2 and wore a precise monitor and I would read 1 to 2 parts per million. U haven't taken into consideration . We have a friend that is taking care of us. Green plants take in CO2 and put out oxygen . They need the CO2 just as much as we need oxygen ,it makes them grow. It doesn't only recycle our air it starts the reprocessing of our fossile fuels. The plants grow and there leaves etc. are washed down the rivers to the delta where it will detoriate to gas, oil, and after a long time it will change to coal. Our only main problem is to start using much moor coal and try to give the present batch time to recycle. The earth has been recycling this for several million years .
