Whether anyone likes it not, it is happening. Languages are dynamic, meaning they change over time. The changes are due to changes in society. There are many words now in Webster's dictionary that came from India's antiquated language Sanskrit. Many other languages have also contributed words. How many times have you come across the word Amigo ? If the Spanish-speaking people become a major fraction of the population, there will be many, many Spanish words joining the legion of English words. And then we will have Spanglish.

If you live where I do, Spanish is Spanish and if you said some Mary Poppins' word like "spanlish" you'd get what you deserve for being dumb enough to say it. I'm not disagreeing with you, however, since I don't know for certain what you meant, so yahhhh baby, supercalifradulistipespealidoutious!! (If you get the chance to embark on the American Justice System at work, whether you work in the legal system or an unfortunate defendant, you'll know that EVERY language and dialect INTERNATIONALLY must be made available to ensure that everyone understands what rights they have/don't have--and that's a fact. Amen.)

The United States of America became a great country because it was the "melting pot" of the world. Everyone who came to this country, including my Mother, did their best to become an American in every way. They wanted to speak the language, be friends with their neighbors and merge into the culture. Those people who come now and are told to be separate, keep their native tongue, celebrate the holidays of their "home land" are being cheated out of the true American life. We can't legislate their behavior and their language but we really shouldn't facilitate their remaining a separate people.

We can't do that. I think we should stick to the english language unless there's a way to combine all languages that are spoken in this country. Why should spanish be the only one combined with english? What makes them so special? I mean, everything is already translated into spanish as it is. Why isn't everything translated into the other languages as well? Why is it that at the ATM, the only other option is Spanish? How is this fair? Again, what makes them so special?

Personally I think people should speak what ever language they are comfortable with. My people had to adopt a borrowed language in order to get along in life in OUR own land. As for in dealing with businesses most only speak the English language but there are people who work and speak English And Spanish. My boyfriend speaks many languages fluently, he is even learning one of the many Native American languages, mine ! And I think that is so cool he cares enough and understands that English was not the first language of the indigenous people...there are hundreds of them still in use but we are not so stuck up to think that we are the only ones who matter.

Nope..
USA needs to be a legally English only nation....
Multiple languages damage a nation...
Both India & Pakistan have formally adoped English as their
official languages because of multiple local / tribal languages.
English is the international language of aviation, science, business
and communication.....
