Totally depends on the size of the church and how the monies are split. Some churches divide the monies equally among the ministers (pastor, music minister, children's minister, youth minister etc) Some churches only the head pastor is paid, some, the head pastor gets X amount and the lay pastors get a percentage. In JW kindgom halls, none get paid at all. So it really depends on the church itself.

DANG, what church is that? I'm working in the wrong churches!
There are a few factors that will affect pay - does the musician have to plan the service? Organize others? Lead a rehearsal? The economic state of the particular church, city, and parishioners will have an effect, too. And is that stipend for one service or several?
I can tell you this - in the San Francisco Bay Area, I have seen musicians in Catholic Churches work for free in the poorer areas or maybe $25 per service. In middle to upper class areas, a cantor can expect to be paid between $50 and $75 per service if he or she simply shows up, leads the congregation, and sings, including the solo stuff. A pianist or organist is paid about the same. Choir directors might make up to $125 per service, but that includes rehearsal time, music planning and preparation, and the clerical stuff that goes on behind the scenes.

RE:
How much does the average minister of music get paid by churches?
From my understanding, most head musicians get paid between $350 and $500 dollars per Sunday. Is that true?

Many of the salaries are based on a 16-20 hour week, at least in smaller Churches. Usually are not paid just for Sunday. There's practice, out reach, family night, etc.

Probably depends on the size of the congregation among other things.
Small congregations, the organist/choir director/minister of music probably does it free, gratis, out of love for the Lord and love of the congregation.
A church with 10,000 regularly attending members probably wild pay at least the amount you suggest; maybe more. How many days/evenings a week is part of the "job"?

That seems about right, though I have belonged to a church where the music minister was full time so his salary was a bit more, of course he did more than just lead the choir and congregation.

In a large church with a big choir of 150+ and lots of programs-maybe $150,000 per year. In a small church about 200 members-maybe about $120 per week at the most. There is no money in ministry unless you are in a Charismatic church, or are world renowned.

Would depend on the Church, in ours they sing as a donation to God, and do not get paid in money at all.
Look at how the Church spends it's money to find out if it is really following God.
Peace, and God Bless!

My best friend's father holds that position at his church and makes a good deal more than that. No six-figure salary or anything, but quite decent for a ministry position.

Depends on the size of the congregation and how good the person is. Many do it for free, out of their love for God.
