A father and a son were involved in a car accident and the father dies instantly but the son is taken to the hospital for immediate surgery, the surgeon comes in ready to perform surgery and says, "I'm sorry I can't perform this surgery this is my son" How do you explain this?

Yeah, many times. It was on All In The Family, and was recently used in a gag on The Office when Dwight was trying to stump Ryan with a series of old well-known riddles. Ryan answered them all correctly, interrupting Dwight earlier in each successive question.
The surgeon, by the way, was the patient's mother.

Yeah, the surgeon is the boys mom. Most people just think of surgeons as men for some reason.

I havent heard it before bur my guess is:
"A" father dies in the crash and not "THE BOY'S FATHER"
it didnt say a father and HIS son...
