I would be sand (small yet large) on the beach...beaches have no bottoms, bird feathers fall, and you would cease to exist in the ocean, as you would become the ocean floor and not the beach.
BEACH...oh..I figure the left is depending if you are facing it from coming up to it or in reverse facing it from the ocean.

This may be a good riddle, I reserve judgement until your solution is revealed. :-)
I suggest river (or similar waterway)
Small (narrow) yet large (long)
Feathers - acceptable dictionary description of ripples left by boat or (say) periscope.
Do boats on the left have right of way. (or travel on the left in your country)
Rivers have beds not bottoms.
When they reach the sea they cease to exist.
