Jesus died for all types of people; every tongue, tribe, and nation. Why then are the majority of American churches in the 21 Century still racially divided? How do we end this?

And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation." - Revelation 5:9

Some people don't know any better. At Acts 10:34, Peter said: "For a certainty I preceive that God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him." Among true Christians, race does not matter.

Many attempts have been made by the Baptist and a few others to reach out to blacks and open the churches to them , but it is the blacks who do not want to mix. You may find in some of the larger churches a few blacks, but usually not more that 1/2 % or so. Even in inter city churches where they may have been white in the past, slowly they become all black. The two just will not mix. Most all black denomination are pretty much the same regardless of the name on the door. Methodist Episcopal, Baptist or Apostolic they are all nearly the same. Maybe for a single event you can get the blacks to come to a white church, but they wil not stay. The same with whites, they will just not stay in a black church. The culture is just too different. Maybe we should leave everyone alone.

From an atheist in defense of (at least some) Christians:
many of the Christian churches I observe are not divided along color lines. Among others, Catholics, Episcopalians/Anglicans, Methodists, and Lutherans don't seem to be divided along racial lines - at least not systematically or dogmatically. In the churches I've visited from those denominations neither blacks nor whites felt "out of place." I will grant that some foment that separation, but I don't think it's much to do with Christianity.

Churches are divided because of difference in culture.
It has nothing to do with race.
It all depends on the way u are accustomed in your service to God.
Black churches are up beat.
White churches are more settle.
So some times it's hard for a black person to go to a white church because they fell it's boring.
Yet if a white person goes to a black church they feel it's too loud.
So it's all a matter of how u feel comfortable serving God.
That is why there is variety.
But I've been witness to blacks and whites interacting with ea other, the only thing is that it is at a minimum.

...I am not sure how to get rid of it; at our church, we have blacks, whites, hispanics, and others. By God's grace, we are able to love one another and get along. We have 1 black pastor who does Christian Ed and he leads worship - and he is top-knotch; so are our 2 white pastors, one who does most of the teaching from the Bible, and the other man is our youth pastor. All three are men of God.
...We have various styles of music and ministry - we have a nice spirit there, and by God's grace we accept each other in love, as Christ has accepted us.
...The important thing be convinced in your own mind about a church, that God wants you there - and make sure it is a good Bible-teaching church where Christ is honored as Lord, a place where you can serve, meet needs, and love others.

The Church I attend, as well as most churches welcomes every race and color. There are some fringe white supremist groups still left that say blacks or other races arent welcome but thats very few. However there are MANY all black churches, and its not because white people kick them out of their churches but because they enjoy being sepperate, just dont want to be forced to be.

I go to a church which is a diverse, mixed community. In many cities such churches exist. The way to overcome racial division in churches is to show up in a church that is diverse and give it your support, fellowship and enthusiasm.

Some people still believe tha god condems anyone of darker skin, because they represent sin in their skin tone. That's at least how slave owners justified slavery.
It's sad really sad, because these people are so arogent they don't realize that islamic and egyptian people are darker skin, and according to geography, Where was jesus born?

False religion again. A true Christian religion will show love among it's members they don't have any racial prejudice no go to war against each other because they happen to live in different nations.

Because the white people wouldn't let black people in their churches many years ago; they made their own churches and haven't tried to go back. This is in the US, I don't know about elsewhere.
