Always get a second opinion. They are out to make money. I saw a dentist and he said I had 5 cavaties!!! I went to another and had only one small cavity. They will rip you off!!! Also, who in the heck needs a $100 toothbrush? Go buy a sonic care one at Target or Wal-Mart. They are the best. Take action and let them know that you are going elsewhere.

Get a second opionion! I'm not sure why they would be trying to get you to buy a $100 toothbrush. I never heard of that. But a few months back I saw a top of the line pediactric dentist in my area for my daughter. It's a husband and wife combo office. They explained to me that my daughter had like 5 cavities and they wanted her to be put under intraveneouly leaving me with a $2000 bill after insurance. I decided it was important to get it done so I decided to make the appt. After speaking to my older sister, she said it sounded like B.S. I ended up seeing another pediatric dentist outside the city in a smaller area. He only found 1 cavity and will charge me $200 to fill it. Go figure! So I say get a second opionion and stay away from the dentist that's trying to be a salesman too. Good luck and God bless!

A hundred dollars for a high quality power toothbrush is about right. And, just because you don't normally have cavities does not mean that you are being lied to or being "ripped off". Perhaps your previous dentist did not have the latest diagnostic equipment, such as laser diagnodent machines to locate cavites at their earliest possible stage for minimally invasive repair. Maybe the new dentist is absolutely 100% accurate!!!
Either way and regardless of truth or fiction, you should seek a third professional opinion. Just make sure the next dentist has all of the most up to date diagnostic equipment too. Most dentists are absolutely honest and truthful people.

OK, enough with people thinking dentists are out to rip people off. That's offensive and just plain inaccurate.
My office offers Sonicare toothbrushes to sell as a convenience to patients who may want one. We sell them for the exact same price as Walmart or Costco. The markup just pays us to store them and handle the tax forms required for selling a retail product. Sheesh!
Many dental offices have advanced diagnostic tools which can detect cavities others miss. It's always better to catch decay before it gets deep enough to see with the naked eye or even on an x-ray. Be glad your dentist found the cavities when they are "small". A second, third, or fourth opinion would probably give you four answers and you won't know any more than you do now.
Dentists look at things differently - some are naturally more conservative (wait and see) and others more proactive (fix it before it gets worse.) Doesn't mean you are getting "ripped off."
If you don't want the darned toothbrush, don't buy it.

when i was small i went to the same dentist several times and each time he would drill. he said cause he had to. and each time he would not deaden the tooth.
so i have a paranoia of dentists up until i was in my teens then i went to another dentist which was [popposite] than my first dentist. he did not find any cavaties at all!!
and yes get a second opinion!! which is always good thing to do.

The toothbrush is for better care of your gums, the dentist feels this brush is much better for you tham the manual one. The cavities are probably new ones and you don't want them to get bigger. If you feel better than get a 2nd opinion but if the result is the same about the cavities then you wasted time and money. Before you get a 2nd opinion you could go back and ask the dentist to show you where the cavities are.

the toothbrush is worth the money!! i am assuming its a sonicare look around you may be able to find it cheaper. as for the cavities, you should be able to look in your mouth and see if you have a cavity, even if its just a small one, and remember small ones will turn into big ones and cost even more to repair. i recommend something called air abrasion for minor surface cavities, the decayed area is blasted off then sealed , no drill! if your dentist doesn't offer it then find one that does. it doesn't at all sound like your dentist is ripping you off, just doing his job, trying to help you take care of your teeth.

YOUR DENTIST WANTS TO SELL YOU A TOOTHBRUSH AT A HUGE PROFIT. BUT THAT'S THE WORLD OF DENTISTRY.
IF HE PAYS $30 FOR THE BRUSH, IF ELECTRIC, AND SELLS IT FOR $100, THEN IT'S 100-30=$70 OR OVER 300% PROFIT.
TO HIS CREDIT HE'S THERE TO MAKE MONEY, NOT LOSE IT. IF YOU LIKE THIS TOOTHBRUSH DO A SEARCH ON THE WEB WHERE IT'S CHEAPER.

yeah, my dentist is the same way. i never ever ever had a cavity, the my insurance changed and i had to get a new one, and now every time i go i have at least one. i swear its all a lie. and she had my mom buy a million dollar tooth brush too, and she tried to get me to get a crown on a tooth that is fused to the bone (and has been since i was young and not even my orthodontist did anything about it) and then she said i needed a root cannal (which i didnt get done and its been over 2 years and no pain not even once)
so now i only go when i think i need to (like when i chipped a tooth)
everyone only wants money.
