I colored my hair with L'Oreal Feria Permanent Hair Color, with the hopes of going darker, although now my hair appears to be a shade lighter. I want to have it professionally darkened, so I'm wondering how long I should wait so that this time I get the exact shade that I want from root to tip.

It is going to take a very long time for your hair to grow out fully (at least a year- but it depends on the length of your hair)... Instead of waiting, it's best to see a professional who can easily and properly dye over the bad color job and give you the results you're looking for.

Ask the professional that you want to have do your next dye job. They will have the most accurate answer for you. But, to do the math on how long it would take for the color to grow out completely, hair grows an average of half an inch a month.

I had the same thing happen not to long ago. I called the company and asked them how long do they suggest that I wait to re-dye my hair. They said 4 to 6 weeks is suggested. I did not listen to this suggestion and redyed my hair the day after I previously dyed it. It turned out fine. A found on the website that the only time you have to wait 4 to 6 weeks to re-dye your hair is when you are going darker. If you are going to a salon, call them ahead of time and check and see what they recommend.

Even though it is a permanent color, it will begin to fade before it grows out. So when you do finally get that "perfect" color, it will begin to fade and you will need to keep up the color every 4-6 weeks, which can get expensive. Since you just colored your hair you need wait for at least 3-4 weeks before coloring again, to aviod major damage.
