How do you forget you have children??

My friend babysat for her neighbor one night. She kept her son while the neighbor went out for an evening with her husband. She was supposed to pick her son up at around 9:30 that night. Around 11pm, my friend decided to put the boy down to sleep and call it at night because it was pretty late for a child to be up. Next morning she wakes up, still no word from the neighbor. So she decides to call her to make sure nothing bad had happened to her or her husband. When the neighbor answered the phone she says to my friend "oh i'm sorry I forgot I had children". What kind of excuse is that?? How can someone possibly forget that they have children?? Please explain

I'm sure she didn't ACTULLY forget.. she was probably kidding. But either way, that's pretty awful parenting.. just letting leaving your kid with a babysitter all night and not even call and let them know. Just makes a person shake their head in confusion.

wow, what a lie! Maybe she got too wasted and is very irresponsible. I wonder how often she does that. I feel bad for the son! I have a 13 month old son, and I can say I NEVER forget him. He stayed at my mom's one weekend when my husband and I both had to work, and I woke up in the middle of the night scared because I thought he had tried to walk down the stairs- I think it was just a bad dream, but I woke up thinking he was at our place instead of at my mom's. So even when he's not with me-which isn't that often, I still think about him allllll the time.

Basically, she used you for your services. She just wanted a night out and the whole night alone for her and her husband. I hope you told her that the fee will be for all night. Don't let people take advantage of your good nature like that. I feel sorry for that poor child. If she really did forget, which I strongly doubt, she doesn't deserve to be a mother in the first place.

i never forget i have children. there is no possible way, The neighbor used that as an excuse to just stay out and not have to worry about her kids. she should of told your friend, i will be back in the morning for them when she dropped them off and tell your friend that she will get compensated well. That woman is very irresponsible. Kudos to your friend for putting the boy to bed .

You don't forget you have children unless you are taking some very lethal drugs - she was just simply pawning the child off on whoever would take him and milking the opportunity as much as possible - she probably meant it as a joke, as if the whole thing was just silly. This is why some people should be neutered.

It could be some kind of amnesia or mental disorder. Is ure friend really old? Or is she disturbed in her daily functioning as far you can tell? keep an eye on her and see if she needs help. She might. Or she could've just been attempting a bad joke by saying she forgot she had children. You never know with people nowadays.

That is terrible that they would do that. It was probably better the child was there with your friend that night. They were probably drunk or on drugs that night. I would tell your friend not to watch the child anymore. Because the parents will think it is OK and that they can do that all the time now.

It sounds to me like a totally lame way to crack a joke after feeling embarassed. She probably got too drunk the night before, and when she was woken up by your friend's call....she was embarassed and made a lame crack "oh i forgot I had kids".

No excuse at all, pretty disturbing actually. But I think that's where her comment came from.

It is kind of like when the people forget their baby is in the car when it is 110 degrees outside and the poor thing dies. This world is not going to last long like this. The end is near unless we get it together.
