I know what it is to go skydiving. Jump out of a plane and open a parachute.
I do not understand what it is like to skydive because I have never done it or anything like it.
Knowing is having textbook information.
Understanding is being able to use that information in your life.

Well, I know that rockets are propelled way up into the sky, I however have very little if any understanding of how they accomplish this feat.
I know that my creator is coming back for me one day, I do not understand all involved in the accomplishment of this promise.
But I believe both, without full understanding. I do strive to know more about my creator and his will for me, I however, have very little interest in understanding rocket science.

I know gravity exists, but I don't know how it works. But I don't need to understand exactly how it works to know that I am subject to it's laws, and the consequences for ignoring those laws.

I know that television works - I have no clue how. I know that if I eat equal amounts of lettuce or chocolate that the lettuce will not affect my weight, but the chocolate will - I still find it difficult to understand how that works.

When you turn on your TV, you KNOW what's going to happen. Understanding HOW it happens is something else entirely.

I always enjoyed this story.
While walking along a person came across two metal rails. (Knowledge)
He discerned that they are railroad tracks.
He understood trains travel on railroad tracks.
Wisdom told him "Get of tracks stupid before you get run over."
