My wife and I adopted a baby domestically (US) earlier this year. The cost was roughly $20,000, I hear this is pretty average. We went through a private agency. Adopting through a government agency will likely cost less, adopting overseas will likely cost more. From the time we started the paperwork to when our child was born was about nine months, which is best case scenario. Our agency told us one to two years is common, over 90% of their clients adopt within two years.

Hope this helps.

You need to interview all parties that were involved in adoption not just the Adoptive parents, there is a whole other side to adoption that the adoptees have to tell that unfortunately no one seems to listen to My adoption wasen't easy tho I was 9 at the time I didn't have verry good memories of my natural parents because of there abuse luckily my Aunt and Uncle took me in an legally Adopted me an where never more then understanding and cooperative to my emotions and needs as an abused child Yes I missed my parents an didn't understand at the time why I could not have contact with them the pain is horrible but I got help and learned to deal with the situation appropriately and I am a better person for it and when I had my own child my exsperiences taught me to be a better parent my Aunt and Uncle taught me how to be a good parent certainly not my birth parents! Just a little story from an adoptee, everyones adoption tale has a different fingerprint, an different story an everone who was adopted had delt with there adoption in there own unique way If your going to adopt please adopt because you want to help a child there are allot of children out here whom need help an a loving home with parents whom can be more then understanding an kind and patient to their feelings emotions and needs best of luck

The older they are the easier it is I believe. Newborns usually take years and it does cost a fortune. Why not look into fostering?
