I'm having a problem with my tap water. I have a water filter and when I pour the water into a pot it looks fine. But when it starts to boil there look like there is a oil film on top of the water. I have tried washing the pot numerous times, but it always comes back. Any ideas of what it could be?

dirty pot. or soap residue on pot. if its oily before you boil it then it is a problem with your tap water. but if it only happens when boiling it i am thinking the pot itself.

Perhaps there's an oily residue on your pan from the detergent you're using, or from using oil inside it. In either case, you could try making some porridge (don't eat it!) in that pan - using water as that's less wasteful. Porridge is a wonderful way of cleaning things. It absorbs strong smells too. Once it's made, coat the whole inside of the pan with it, then when it's cooled, rub it around the inside of the pan a bit. Then remove the residue and discard it. Fill the pan with water (cold) leave it awhile, then the porridge should be loosened from the pan enough to scrape it off with your hands. If the problem persists, there may be a problem with your water pipes, your water supply, or the cloth/sponge you're using to wash your pan.

It could be that your complex or community has water conditioners in it. Do you feel kinda silty after a shower? Water conditioner is common these days and can be cleaned out of the water by boiling it and skimming off the top. It's harmless to injest in small doses and sometimes a britta filter dosn't get it all out, just clogs the filter. In your case, it would be best to prepare the water before use.

Change your water filter.

Try using bottled water for a bit. If you use bottled water and it happends, it's your pots/cleaning. If not, it's the water supply (and/or yoru filter) and I'd call the water company adn complain. Dept. of Health may liek to know, too.

Make sure you run hot water to your kitchen sink before running your dishwasher. Use the 2-cycle wash, w/ detergent in both, and use a rinsing agent.

yes i have an idea...this is a film or residue of oil on the inside of your pot that is not coming off when you clean it....wash the pot thouroughly with hot water and dish liquid...(i use dawn).....if you are making something like tea, do what i do....designate a pot for tea only that way there is no chance that you will have anything else in your tea
