what museum would you reccomend in the LA area. I'm a club advisor for a high school and I wouldn't want my students to find a museum boring.

You ask about the "Los Angeles area". I would like to make the following suggestion: go to the La Brea Tar Pits.

Think about it: With a bus trip to a single stop, you are on the front steps of four different museums:

The George C Page Museum – natural sciences, a nice park and an active archeological dig.

The Peterson Automotive Museum – great example of industrial art, where form meets function.

LACMA – an art museum (2 buildings)

In the world of quality museums, the Getty is considered to be the 3rd best museum behind the Louvre and the Met.
It sits on it's own hillside in west LA and is an ideal destination for a group of students.

The Getty in town (vs Malibu) is great and gives you a spectacular view of L.A. and the 405 also....Also there is Norton Simon Museum ( I think it is over in the direction of Pasadena), The new Griffith Observatory Museum, and I think Huntington Beach has a surfing museum.

How about the Peterson Automotive Museum, or California Science Center (they have an IMAX there), or La Brea Tar Pits is always fun for the younger set.

Another location I would highly recommend is the Ronald Raegan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. It is very fascinating to go through and see the Air Force One airplane he used (yes, you get to go in!) as well as the replica of the oval office - which you may also enter. Additionally, you can see the President's motorcade and other artifacts. You can check it out online and I believe the admission for school groups is free. And to add to the experience.... the view from there of the valley, mountains, and even the ocean (on a clear day) is amazing!!!

Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), 250 South Grand Avenue, downtown. The 'art' there will inspire conversation about what 'art' truly is and may broaden their perspective.
