No an MRI scan is not scary it is a long tube which is open both ends, it makes quite a noise but is totally painless, it will take about 30-45 minutes

I had am MRI done to my lower back about 2 weeks ago for the same reason, intense pain. The MRI does not hurt and yes you can breathe. My MRI lasted between 45 minutes and 1 hour. It was very loud within the machine and the technician placed earplugs in my ears prior to beginning. The machine table you are laying on vibrates gently at times and you hear jack hammer and pounding type noises. The worst part is how closed in you are. Your best bet is to close your eyes and put yourself into another zone as opposed to focusing on the test as it is occurring. I too was worried about cancer and mine turned out fine. Good luck!

MRI's are loud and if you are in a tube and claustrophobic it might be a bit scary. Some places that do them will give you headphone and music...that helps alot. If they don't have that where you are going take ear plugs.
It doesn't mean cancer...it is just a test to see why you are having pain.

MRI's are not scary. You have to lie still, you most definitely can breath :). The machine makes a loud humming noise and an occasional thump. The time it takes depends on what the pictures are of and how many sections have to be done. Don't worry. They don't hurt at all.

It's not too scary. You can breathe just fine but the top of the machine will be very close to your face. They gave me headphones so I could listen to music, but I guess that depends on the place. Think about taking along a washcloth to put over your eyes. That way even if you open your eyes, you won't flip out because you won't see how close it is. Just relax as much as possible. It might take a little while but it's really not horrible.

I've had 4 MRIs. It isn't scary, just loud. But they give u earplugs. They have a fresh-air tube, breathing is no problem.
It is more boring than anything else. Could be uncomfortable if ur claustrophobic tho.

No you will find it's not scary at all. At first you might be a little nervous with the whirling noise, then you will realize it's only the camera and relax. Yes, you will be able to breath. Your first experience is fear of the unknown. There is no pain to it what so ever. Rest assured of that and then you will have no reason to worry.

not scary---- LOUD!!! you lye down on a table and they move you into a big tunnel like object. It makes alot of noise,ie. the magnets going on and off. IT IS tottally painless.and you can breath as normal! Do not wear anything metal! they will tell you to take it off anyway. How long depends on What you are having the MIR for.
