Depends what state you live in. example in Texas, you have to have your SSN card no matter what. More likely you will be told to wait until you physically have the card.

Not in all states, but hopefully that will change. IF you were getting your paperwork done, then you'd know that one can apply for a temporary ID at both the ICE and various state agencies. A better question would be how did you enter the country, have you overstayed your Visa, and why attempt to drive now, when you saw no use of it in your homeland?
Alas, you'll probably be able to get your license, skip through citizenship tests, as I am sure they're given in German, Korean, Spanish, and a multitude of foreign languages.
The idea of a national language is not racist. If you people care to look it up, our Founders pontificated making the official language Spanish, as a DIG at the English. We should make English our National Language and encourage conformity and unity by requiring all citizens and wannabes to learn it. In other words, switch back to those common sense times of yesteryear.

Yes, you a required to have a social security number and a birth certificate. You have to have so many hours of driver's ed also. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you're gonna have to wait till the spring to get your license. But you should look up DMV on the internet and print out the test samples and start studying. It will give you a jump start on things. Good luck and welcome to America.

Depends on the state. You don't loose anything by calling and asking, just to make sure.
Most of the time if you have a Visa, you don't need a S.S. Then when you do get your S.S., you can change the info on the DL, when you renew it or before.

It depends on the state. If you have a different document showing resident entitlement, that may work, even in states that usually require one. Each state is different. Go to the DMV website and click on the state you want to find out.

Typically, you will need to provide two forms of indentification. Rules are different however for non-US citizens, and vary from state to state.
