Some dogs, especially Akitas and pit bulls, will get a moment of this 'wild-eyed' very feral wolf-like behavior..Does it appear his eyes become 'lighted'? This is the pupil contacting, and usually is forerunner of the episode..The Leerburg training CD's/DVDs and online magazine has help for all types of canine aggression and would be well worth reading up on..to learn to handle..Here is a link to about 1,000 pages of aggression training tips> http://www.leerburg.com/articles.htm..( My German shepherd had such episodes, as did one of my Dobermans.. the Dobe had to be put down)

Akita's are known as great guard dogs, Pits are bull headed (not necessarily mean). Lab of course is lad back.
Then being at a shelter, with no knowledge about how he was treated before the shelter? 9 months old can be trained...
Do not tolerate the aggressive behavior. In his past life this might have been acceptable behavior?
Take yourself to a puppy class. If and only if your puppy will not attack others take him. Talk to the trainer of the class first would be best. Trainers have specialties, some our not comfortable with aggressive dogs....
Remember in no way tolerate aggressive behavior!
Good luck!

It is very normal. Your dog needs training. All dogs need to be trained as to what is acceptable/unacceptable behavior. Some breeds do have a more aggressive nature but, Its all about you and what you put in to the dog. Seek professional help with a good obedience school. It will teach you both. This will be a rather large dog so please, don't just let it slide.

I would say that it is pretty normal. When you get a pet from a shelter, you really don't know what kind of background they have. Try a rolled up newspaper. When he does this bad behavior LIGHTLY swat him once with a newspaper. It will not hurt him, they are mostly startled by the sound. After the first couple times all you will have to do is hit the newspaper on your hand to make the noise and they will stop the unwanted behavior. GOOD LUCK

Akita's and Pits can be aggressive. You have to put them in training before you lose control. You need to establish yourself as the boss so that you can control the dog in tense situations. Definitely invest in obedience school. It's totally worth it and you will both learn a lot.

Do not swat the dog with a newspaper. You can slap the newspaper against your hand to get his attention and then reprimand him in a loud no nonsense voice. Make sure that he understands that the humans are the alphas and not the puppy.

normal. he is doing what puppies do. He probably thinks he is playing you just have to train him to calm down. Try a stuffed animal when he gets agression and let him take it out on that.

Good luck!

considering the mix--big problem. If you don't know how to train him, go to obedience class before he becomes a monster.
